December 17, 200817 yr I've heard there's going to be a new rules version coming out that will provide a common rule set for all the Admiralty Trilogy naval games. Is this true? If so, when is it likely to come out?
December 17, 200817 yr Is this true? If so, when is it likely to come out? Per Sitrep #35 October 2008, Atlantic Navies is done, to be followed by Harpoon Naval Review '09 in March. Once Atlantic Navies is out, work will begin on Harpoon 5. I know from recent sitreps that a decent amount of work has already been completed in the harmonization between Harpoon and the earlier era rules.
December 17, 200817 yr Thanks. So another year plus then? No ETA, public at least, that I am aware of.
September 21, 200916 yr Still no public ETA that I am aware of. As you have seen from some recent activity here, the procedure for air combat has changed, the only data change that I recall is the addition of damage ratings for all aircraft. These rating have already been released via the bi-annual Naval Sitrep from the tilogy folks. Perhaps Dave S can provide some more enlightenment. Pete

Pete The last I heard, there are hopes that Harpoon 5 (sometimes called Harpoon V) can be done for a late 2010 release. But there are a lot of things in the Admiralty Trilogy queue, so that may (probably will) change. Just so everyone knows the background on this, the upcoming changes to Harpoon are part of the unification project, which is an effort to make all the Admiralty Trilogy products (Fear God and Dreadnought, Command at Sea, and Harpoon) compatible with each other. As Pete mentioned, you are already seeing some of the changes in the recent issues of The Naval SITREP. Some other notable changes are that the Harpoon 5 turn sequence will change with the 30 second turns going away, gun combat will change to be more like the other games in the series, anti-air combat is changing, and the damage control procedures will be the same for all the games. As part of the project, the formulas for determining the damage points for ships and weapons were consolidated. So, these damage point values will probably be different from current values (although in most cases they will still be pretty close). There will probably be some refinements in other data (more likely due to new information than system changes) . Hopefully that helps answer some questions. Dave
August 4, 201015 yr From Clash of Arms' Ed Wimble over on CSW: Harpoon5 is slated for a lot of action next summer. Does this mean a Historicon release date? Will know more as 2011 progresses. But Chris & Co. have it on their plate after the release of PI. Message 16000
April 5, 201214 yr From Clash of Arms' Ed Wimble over on CSW: Harpoon5 is slated for a lot of action next summer. Does this mean a Historicon release date? Will know more as 2011 progresses. But Chris & Co. have it on their plate after the release of PI. Message 16000 Has anyone heard any more on this? I used to play Harpoon a lot in the 90's and over the last year I've been snooping around various web sites and looking through my books and papers I've collected over the years and I'm starting to itch for a good game! I'm thinking of getting the newer rules but not if they end up obsolete a few months later...
April 5, 201214 yr Harpoon V is on "simmer". "simmer"? What exactly does that mean? Another 3 years? As long as it dosn't end up like the $5 deposit I put on preorder for the the release of harpoon back in 2001 or was it 2002 and sat there for 2+ years as the release date kept getting pushed back!
April 5, 201214 yr I believe it means that it is being held back while other loose ends (i.e. other smaller projects) are being completed.
May 29, 201213 yr Naval Sitrep 42 discusses the new Damage Point model used in Harpoon 5 http://www.clashofarms.com/sitrep.html
