July 23, 20205 yr Hey guys, just starting out with Harpoon 5, quick fundamental question regarding how to read the weapon info: Example:Arleigh Burke Flight III F&A(8)4 fwd & (8)8 aft Mk41 VLS w/9 msls total, typical loadout 38 SM2MR, 6 SM3 Blk IA/IB, 16 SM6, 32 ESSM, 4 VL ASROC, 24 Tactical Tomahawk//F/2A 3 SPG-62 I read this as the MK41 VLS can fire from Front with 4 mounts each having 8 tubes, and/or the Aft with 8 mounts each having 8 tubes...but what does "w/9msls total" mean? Does it mean each turn 9 missiles can shoot total from the Front and/or Aft? thanks in advance,
July 23, 20205 yr w/9msls total means there are only 9 missiles in the cells (partial loadout, weapons already expended, etc.). You are correct on the rest (32 cells forward, 64 cells aft).
July 23, 20205 yr I think it is a typo. It should read 96 msls total. The other Burkes list 96 msls, and they all have the same number of cells. Edit: Except Flights I, II - they have only 90 msls. I think the reason has to do with the strikedown crane for reloading.

I was excited about it potentially being a scenario where the ship started off with a severely limited stock of missiles.
July 23, 20205 yr Author ok thanks, that makes more sense. This came from the data book, and we were having a hard time wrapping our head around the ship always starting with only 9 missiles loaded (not even a missile a mount) during war footing.

July 24, 20205 yr Okay, I have reported it via e-mail to the admiralty trilogy just now, crediting you B-Mode.
July 24, 20205 yr Larry has acknowledged many eagle eyed reporters. He passed along the America's Navy errata (so far) and will be posting an errata document to their site in a week or two when the reports slow down. 24 July 2020 Errata for America’s Navy Page A-25, Belknap class 22 Nov 75 remarks, collision and repair, change “2@5.0A” to “2@5.0A.” Late 70s refit, change "SM1MR to SM1ER." Page A-28, Arleigh Burke Flight III, the Mk41 VLS has a total of 96 missiles, not 9. Page A-28, Arleigh Burke Flight IIA Technology Insertion, change "SQQ-53D" to "SQS-53D" Page A-28, Arleigh Burke Flight IIA Restart, change "SQQ-53C" to "SQS-53C" Page C-1, the US Mk1, 2, 3 40mm/60 is missing the AA data. The gun can reach into the Medium altitude band out to 3.7 kyds, with an AA strength per barrel of 0.25. This value is modified by both the number of guns firing and the combat system of the firing ship. Page J-1, add the SG-2 radar. It is a Gen 1 surface search radar with a range of 22/22/15/9/4.7 nmi.
