January 12, 20179 yr The aircraft continue to maintain their distance. The helo was warned as directed, but has approached to 15 nm from the convoy. The helo has also climbed to Medium altitude. There are no emissions from the helo. turn_1430_blue.txt turn_1430_blue_intl.txt
January 12, 20179 yr What do you think, CV32 (Brad, was it? I'm James, btw). I think the helo has had adequate warning. I'm inclined to classify it as hostile and swat it down at the 13 nm mark, much as I would have done for the presumptive F4-E.

I would hesitate to toss an SA-N-7 in its direction until it closes to a distance that might actually pose a threat. (We might need all of those SA-N-7s soon enough.)
January 13, 20179 yr I agree it seems odd for this to be a serious attack, though I can't imagine what gain they are hoping for exposing their pilots and equipment to harm in such a feint. Anyway, I'm fine with holding fire. From what I can tell, their longest range likely weapon would be something in th 3.5 nm range, so I'm comfortable holding off on firing until maybe 4.5-5 nm.

I expect they see it as a disposable asset. In any case, I think your intended course of action is prudent. Something like AS.12 or AGM-65A Maverick would be the worst case scenario. Your 130mm AK-130 can dissuade him before then. I would continue to broadcast over open channels in the plainest possible language that their continued approach may be considered hostile. If nothing else, our own Adlaisky Stevensonsky can show the evidence at the UN, lol.
January 13, 20179 yr That'll be the plan, then. We will give continued persistent advisement that continued approach will be considered hostile, and I'll hold off on firing on the helo unless it gets to roughly the range of the 130 (which I'd have to look up when I get home) or 5 nm, whichever is less.
