Convergenze Zone capable sonobuoys

Featured Replies

I saw a few years ago (and because a comment in the CMANO forum I recall it now) SSQ-77C (as passive omnidirectional sonobuoy) is stated on the manufacturer PDF as "convergence zone receive beam" capable.

And probably should be more CZ capable sonobuoys.

I think we should implement that capability on SSQ-77 and probably other sonobuoys.

I see also VLAD states for Vertical-line Array DIFAR (a pity, it's not Vlad Tepes related! [ ;)] )

(I think also that capability should be one of the USSR demise causes, showing the Soviets the futility of his submarine force).

Thoughts?

Yeah, from years on my personal DB SSQ-77 is CZ capable=1, but I don't see any clear difference.

But I don't understad clearly how and when CZ is implemented in Harpoon HCE/HUCE, and I also think it's because I keep the SSQ-77 range in 1.7, and as only from above that range value CZ is clear and usually showed in the GE, I don't get any consistent result on his use.

If CZ capable sonobuoys offered an uncertainty zone, instead of a solid detection hit, then I would perhaps be in favour.

But I have a sneaking suspicion that the code (at least presently) leans against it working properly.
