March 27, 201313 yr Hello I was browsing through the german navy ships (Lutjens, Bremen) and the DM4A1 torpedo come up (324mm), I searched arround and found nothing on it. Anyone has any information about it ? Thanks a lot
March 27, 201313 yr I believe that DM4A1 may have been a German designation for an American designed lightweight torpedo, and I am thinking in particular of the Mk 43 Mod 1. The DM3, for example, was apparently the American Mk 37. At some point the nomenclature appears to have changed, because I have seen references to German designations DM44 and DM46 for the American Mk 44 and Mk 46, respectively. In either case, you won't find reference to the DM4A1 in recent versions of the Harpoon annexes. Meaning either it is no longer in inventory or (potentially) was included in error.
March 27, 201313 yr I'm not át home yet, But I'm almost sure is Mk 44 built under licenseThat could well be the case. Did they also change the nomenclature system, making the DM4A1 the DM44?
March 28, 201313 yr At last at home, one of the evidences of DM4 is Mk44 here: http://www.hardthoehenkurier.de/pdfs/2012-01/hhk2012-1-S48-49.pdf In the first line: MK44/DM4
March 28, 201313 yr Also here: http://www.kriegsschiffe.privat.t-online.de/Level6/Torpedos.htm Mk44=DM4 Mk37=DM3
March 28, 201313 yr Thanks, Enrique. That would appear to clear it up. (Still wondering about the DM4/DM44 and DM46 designations). Presumably DM4A1 also means Mk 44 Mod 1.
