February 8, 201214 yr Hi all, I'm new to the world of Harpoon and have been inspired by the recent flare-up of debate over the Falklands to experiment with the Battleset and Scenario editors, using the latest HCDA database. Having played a few games I've come to appreciate the qualities of electronic warfare platforms. In the Falklands the UK has a Joint Communications Unit providing EW support to its armed forces. This is based at RAF Mount Pleasant. I wondered whether there was any way of including such a land-based platform in my scenarios? I'm familiar with the airborne platfroms but I can't wrok out whtehr a land-based one is possible within the game (and if not, why not?). Thanks in advance, Rhys Gethin
February 8, 201214 yr Yes, a land based electronic warfare (EW) unit is certainly possible within the game, and I added one to the standard HCDB in the way of an ESM (passive) unit. The same can easily be accomplished in the HCDA. No reason why an active jammer (ECM) could not be added either, though its range would obviously be limited by it being on the ground rather than in the air.
February 8, 201214 yr Author Thanks for the quick response and the suggestion. I'll try and get my head around the platform editor. I've just had a look and it doesn't seem as straightforward as the scenario or battleset editors. Mount Pleasant does not appear as one of the airbases in the database. I'll keep fiddling...
February 8, 201214 yr You can select a Generic Air Base (INTL, three sizes, you can put them a great number of times in the same scenario, the number it is not limitated to four) place it on the map, and late change his position in the map. And in the Americas DB (HCDA) are both Ascension and RAF Mount Pleasant.
