HUD3 Update
HUD 3 = Harpoon User´s Database version 3 Use the latest version of ANW = ANW 3.9.4 Regards and happy pooning! Ralf I'd like to express my thanks to Brad and especially Ralf for their kind words. Ralf has been a key driving force behind the resurrection of the HUD database series and I can honestly say that without my fellow Pooner none of this would ever have happened. I don't know how many times I wondered if this was all worth the effort and Ralf would always be there to make sure I kept my head down and continued the work. As far as I'm concerned this is just as much Ralf's project as mine and I am indebted to my friend for his support throughout this project. Cheers Darren

HUD3 Update
EWCM, The latest HUD3 is compatible with the currently released H3ANW 3.9.4 The DB isn't finished with, like most Harpoon databases they are an ongoing work "in-progress" and the same applies to the HUD3. I've uploaded three Battlesets so far and will hopefully be adding a three scenario set of Ralf's based on his PASON scenario series constructed by Ralf specifically for the HUD3 (Thx Ralf), as well as the "missing"/remaining Submarine photos from the ANW download. I have another approximately 30 - 40 photo sets to upload. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me here or through email and I'll endeavour to provide any help I can. Thanks in advance Darren

HUD3 Update
Hello everyone, http://hud3.harpoon5.com/ Now I have some content up and available I'm happy to make it known, sorry about people being directed to a site that was "under renovation" and not complete on some forums. Only excuse is I've got a 250 scenario rebuild project underway as well as maintaining a website and trying to hunt bugs and build new scens if I have time. I've just uploaded a new HUD3 and text file set and a set of 3 Battlesets on the scenario page to the website. I know, I'm no web design guru and I'm open to suggestions or offers of assistance advice even. You can Grab HUD3_GC1, HUD3_GC2 and HUD3_Westpac providing 45 scenarios as a teaser while I deal with outstanding issues on the remaining scenarios from the original ODB scenario set (120 in all). I will also be adding some extra pages and content in the form of additional photos for the database display and will advise as soon as they are available, also the spreadsheet containing the index values so people can check out the default order. DB Editors wishing to substitute or change the order will require this document to speed the process along. I will open another thread for, The Harpoon Users' Database 3 - Issues. I doubt I've caught everything and I don't really care how small or large the issue is I'm happy to discuss it as time allows us to. I'd like to take this chance to thank everyone for their patience and interest and especially thank those who have so willing helped me with this project. Darren Buckley

Unrep Operations
I would have hoped players were happy that RAS/Unrep now works. Individual preferences in regard to modelling are freely open to both discussion and editing via the database. There's a lot of things working in 3.9 that were killer bugs and even the inplementation of fully working models for DB Editors that wish to include their own logistics systems. Of course the level of detail the average player wants and the effect of said on the game's playability need to be balanced. If for example you wish to transfer say 200 rounds of (5in) 127mm ammunition at a setting of 15 seconds, this will take 50 mins, of course at the same time adding a full reload of Mk 15 Phalanx ammo (7 rounds) will only add an additional 1.75 mins. So in this case the tranfer at the "despised" 15 secs may actually be in excess to the time taken in reality. I would assume the ammo is palletised and may come in say pallets of 50 rounds. Is 50 minutes too long to transfer 200 rounds, of course there's a time component involved in the ships assuming the their transfer stations, so you are looking at an hour alongside each other to perform the example transfer. When you view the issue in relation to individual weapons such as say RGM-84 Harpoons, of course transferring 4 missiles within a minute is ridiculous. Then again, reloading a Mk141 mount with Harpoons at sea can probably be described in the same way. The basic 15 sec rule fits with the transfer of multiple weapons at a standard rate. It is not aimed or intended in the case of the HUD series databases to allow for mount reloading at sea and underway. It was more aimed at the replenishment of aviation stores, in multiple quantities generating "realistic" overall time periods for these evolutions. I did not intend players to Exploit this feature and for people to use some basic common sense in regard to what can actually be loaded at sea while underway and in close proximity to the ongoing action. As always, each individual database editor is free to implement whatever model he sees fit to. Just because I use a particular system doesn't make it the LAW, nor should anyone feel compelled to copy my values or models. Cheers Darren

Now or Never
This used to work in H3, but hasn't worked since ANW 3.7.0 was released. Thanks Herman, Duly noted there have been issue as far as I'm concerned with some of the newer sonobuoy behaviour. I'll look at running up a quick test scen for the Dev team and see what luck we have with this one. Cheers Darren

Now or Never
Hi All, I'd like to take this opportunity to make an offer to the H3ANW community at large and offer to confirm and attempt to get resolution for any issues players are having with H3ANW. I'd like to confirm any major issues people are having that we can address via code fixes as I have about 48 hours to get things into the bug tracking system before things are looking like being closed out at AGSI. H3ANW 3.9 isn't far away and from the involvement in the testing process I've had I can honestly say there are a lot of new and improved features and fixes that should make a lot of people happy. So if you have an issue that's driving you mad and believe would be easily reolved, just add your thoughts below and I'll see what I can do. Cheers Darren Buckley

1982: British sub sinks Argentine cruiser
The accompanying audio clip of PM Thatcher in the House of Commons is priceless. I had to keep reminding myself it was a debate over warfare and the inherent loss of life, against the backdrop of world events of that time, while continuing to hear voices similar to that of a monty python skit. Pink Floyd summed it up on their 1982 Album, "The Final Cut" Side B Track 1 "Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert" "Oi...Get your filthy hands off my desert!" "What 'e say?" (Interrupted my what sounds like a F-4 Phantom unloading on them at low level) Brezhnev took Afghanistan. Begin took Beirut. Galtieri took the Union Jack. And Maggie, over lunch one day, Took a cruiser with all hands. Apparently, to make him give it back Cheers Darren

Russia to revive bomber patrols
Pete, I heard a report on the BBC World service, would have been around lunch time Friday in the UK. The report backs up the story from AP and went on to pay particular attention to the resumption of what the reporter hesitantly called, "...a T U - 95, known as a "Bear" to RAF Tornado pilots that were scrambled to intercept the aircraft." The BBC report seemed more concerned with the resumption of Bear flights to the north of the UK and that the RAF may be forced to resume regular patrols to monitor their activities. Sounds to me like the RAF Tornado ADV squadrons just picked up some extra flying hours... Cheers Darren

HUD Status Update
Greetings from the mines... Many of you will be wondering, "what ever happened to the HUD3?" I'm happy to report that I've managed to put together a group of people from across the Harpoon "World" that are now furiously testing the updated database and rebuilt Global Conflicts 1 Battleset. Don Gilman/AGSI has been kind enough to grant me permission to rebuild and modify the stock scenarios and that's well underway. The project aims to rebuild and or modify all of the original stock scenarios for full compatibility with the HUD3 and improved game play. I'm also working on a modified set of Tutorial scenarios that function with the DB. Don has also in an effort to provide content to the community, offered the HUD3 database a website. I've enthusiastically accepted this offer and this is where I plan to host the database, scenarios and other associated "bits & pieces" for your H3ANW enjoyment. Tony Eischens will also be providing hosting on his site for the DB and files so access shouldn't be an issue. So far I've had a positive response from the community in general and have managed to put together what I consider to be an impressive team. Anthony (Tony) Eischens - USA, Partner Website and forum support - www.harpgamer.com - Scenario Testing Craig Paffhausen - USA, Official H4.1+ rules contributor and Harpoon2 database designer. - want to know something about an aircraft, just ask Craig. He helps write the rules... ;-) Dave Steinmeyer - USA, HUD-II/HUD3 Scenario designer. Freek Schepers - Netherlands, H3 Scenario Designer. Harold Hutchison - USA, Database Platform contribution and testing. Herman Hum - Canada, Player's Database Editor - scenario and DB testing. Jan Masterson - Belgium, European platform advisor - scenario and DB testing. Michael Mackay-Blair - Australia, ex-RAN (20 years service) - Australian Platforms & our reality check. :-) Ralf Koelbach - Germany, Legend amongst scenario designers - Scenario design & testing. If anyone would like to lend a hand I'm crediting contributors to the project in the database.xml file - the file that loads when starting the game and selecting a database for play. I'm always looking for people with time on their hands. Genuine game issues are reported directly to AGSI for actioning through their official MANTIS bug tracking system, you get to kill two birds with one stone. I'm also looking for anyone with my more than basic web site design skills. I have a plan in mind and have even started myself, but if anyone is willing to throw in with the above mentioned "bilge rats", I am open to offers. If you'd like to be involved in this project in any way drop me a line off list and I'll be happy to discuss including you in the "HUD3 Design Team". Thanks in advance Darren Buckley

v3.7.3 patch for Harpoon 3 ANW
Forgive the reposting. To ensure people are aware of the offer. Greetings all, Due to some issues that are still being resolved in regard to the H3ANW database, the Harpoon3Editor.exe was omitted from the Patch installation file. This situation renders all databases unusable unless they have the required signature file. Unfortunately without the game editor it will be impossible to use any DB or scenarios that are not included in the patch. The AGSI team are working through the issues as I type this and we should have a more permanent solution by week's end, fingers crossed. In the meantime I am offering an interim solution. I have been granted permission by Don Gilman to provide the relevant signature files so that players can use any user-created database they please. There's a couple of ways of going about this but firstly if all DB editors could contact me that would like a signature generated for their currently available database and I'll send them a copy for posting on their relevant websites. If there are individual users that can't get the signature they need then please contact me directly with your email address and details of the database and I'll organize to get you the signature so you can get testing. Cheers Darren Buckley ************************** Editor HUD-II/HUD3 Databases Harpoon 3ANW Beta Tester **************************

HUD3-?
Hi All, Would there be any interest in the continuation of the HUD - Harpoon Users Database line of DBs? I've been tinkering with the DB a little and have a few new scens for it that should be ready shortly. I would take this up along with rebuilds of the scens on Dr Who's website and if I gain permission continue the rebuilds I've started on the original scens from the game. Ed Ladner and myself have access to many scens that are probably lost from the web but either simply rebuild with the HUD or are compatible with it. I'd start making these available as well. Anyway a few responses should be enough to motivate me so "hands up" if you're interested... Darren Buckley Editor HUD-II -> soon to be 3??
