From a recent post in HG Current Events: North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) conducted a series of intercepts involving Russian and Chinese military aircraft operating within the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) on July 24. Two Russian Tu-95MS and two Chinese H-6K aircraft were detected, tracked, and intercepted by NORAD fighter jets from the United States and Canada. While operating in international airspace, their presence within the ADIZ necessitated a response from NORAD which dispatched F-16, F-35 and CF-18 fighter aircraft. I have noticed this in a couple of the recent scenario releases, and I thought it would be a good opportunity to offer a tip for scenario writers. The SE will permit you to move the location of installations (airfields, ports, etc) on the map. Sometimes the coordinates plugged into the DB (via the PE) do not translate well onto the game maps and you will find an airfield slightly off kilter from where it ought to be. Perhaps in a body of water when it ought to be on the coast, or an island, for example. While this does not impact game play in the sense that it prevents use of the base, it does look odd and will change the range/endurance of aircraft operating …

The launch of a Chinese lunar module experiment has failed, with the spacecraft returning to earth somewhere in the central Sea of Okhotsk (according to USAF Space Command). What is alarming, however, is that a scientist from the Chinese space program has defected to Japan, and he has some ominous news. He claims that the rocket was actually carrying an anti-satellite weapon that was being launched by the PRC as a prelude to an impending attack against Taiwan. The race is on to recover the module. During the Cold War, the Baltic Sea was the "playground" of maritime reconnaissance and electronic surveillance assets of both NATO and the Warsaw Pact. Both sides employed their assets to continuously monitor each other's activities. View File ASROC Action A scenario to be played by either red or blue. There are two conflict areas, one is red surface groups hunting blue sub groups, the other is red sub hunting blue surface convoy. The scenario has no deep design but is an extension from a simple scenario written to test ASROC style ASW weapons. Played in the GIUK 2003 battleset using the default game HCDB database.
