I recently borrowed Air War South Atlantic a 1983 book written by Jeffrey Ethell and Alfred Price from the local library.

As I mentioned in the H4 folder, I need a recommendation on the Allied Submarine campaign versus Imperial Japan.

Any suggestions please.

Quick search of the library's website, the following are available.

Silent Victory: US Submarine Was vs Japan by Blair Clay

Undersea Victory by W.J. Holmes

Take Her Deep by I.J. Galantin

Any recommendations?

I don't own a WWII submarine warfare book, and I can't recall ever reading one that stands out in memory. (I'm not sure why that is ... perhaps a shortcoming I'll have to redress if I am to retain my SH3 stripes. ;) )

The first, Silent Victory, and the third, Take Her Deep, seem to stand out in their reviews, Pete. Silent Victory sounds like an excellent analytical account, and is over 1,000 pages ! :o The author also wrote about the U-Boat war.

Take Her Deep is apparently written by the skipper of USS Halibut, and gives a good first hand look at the topic.

Decisions, decisions. B)

I'd like to go with an operational account vice a day-by-day-by-day account of a single sub. The library has all of them so as soon as I'm done with the Falklands air war book, I'll check out Silent Victory as it is also offered for sale by the recent USNI book catalog whereas Undersea Victory goes unmentioned, for whatever that's worth.
