Speaking as someone who has taught RD basics to both the U.S and foriegn students, I can say that relative motion is one of the most difficult concepts to get across to a new student. The "Cars on a freeway" example is useful to a point, but when the movement of the contact on the PPI differs so greatly from his actual path, it sometimes seems like some sort of magic to them.
