SonarSlinger Posted June 8, 2025 Report Posted June 8, 2025 I created a modern RAN vs. PLAN scenario using online tools, designed for solo play as the Royal Australian Navy. It can easily be adapted for co-op or competitive multiplayer. This is my first attempt, so feedback is welcome! ChatGPT acts as an intelligent, responsive opponent—managing PLAN movements, sensor results, and combat outcomes without the need for tables or extra players. It understands Harpoon mechanics and modern military doctrine, resolving detection, weapon effects, and electronic warfare while preserving fog of war and narrative tension. It also generates mission briefings, radio chatter, and tactical commentary to enhance immersion. No setup or software required—just a chat window. Google Earth brings the map to life with real-world terrain, coastlines, and choke points like the Timor Sea. It helps visualize unit positions, sensor coverage, and geography intuitively. You can plot courses, mark contacts, measure distances, and create overlays using KML files—perfect for planning, tracking turns, or sharing the scenario with others. How to Play the scenario: STEP 1: Prepare the Game Save File (PLAN Naval Incursion into the Timor Sea - Start State.TXT) This is your master game record. It includes: Unit positions (with lat/lon, altitude/depth in meters) Loadouts and statuses Mission orders and turn history Fog-of-war elements (e.g., "Contact Bravo: Unknown group at 9.05°S, 126.45°E") How to create it: Copy/paste all the text from the Start State into ChatGPT (its that easy). STEP 2: Load the KML into Google Earth Open Google Earth Pro (desktop recommended) Go to File > Open Select - Scenario Start_ PLAN Naval Incursion into the Timor Sea (June 2025).kml You’ll now see all your units, contacts, and patrol zones visualized STEP 3: Play Each Turn Use ChatGPT or manual rules to resolve detection, movement, and engagements Update the .txt save file with new positions, contacts, and damage Generate a new .kml file for each turn (e.g., shadow_strait_turn2.kml) Load the new KML into Google Earth to visualize the updated tactical picture Enjoy PLAN Naval Incursion into the Timor Sea (June 2025) - Start State.txt Scenario Start_ PLAN Naval Incursion into the Timor Sea (June 2025).kml Quote
TonyE Posted June 9, 2025 Report Posted June 9, 2025 Sorry about the slow post approval, I wanted to check your attachments. Also a note, we do not condone using the game data nor rules without legally acquiring them, which ChatGPT has not, our expectation is that you and anyone using a similar approach is acquiring proper licenses.
