November 22, 200817 yr Hello all, I have been playing Harpoon since Harpoon Classic 97 came out. I just got Harpoon Commander's Edition, and have been messing with the scenario editor. I have built a couple of scenarios, but I can't seem to get it to run when I load it on the game. I am not very experiened with modifying files or things like that, so I have not had the nerve to poke around the game files and possibly screw something up. I need help knowing exactly what to do from saving my scenario to getting it to run normally on the game. When I have tried to load my scenario in the past, it either came up with an error or came up with the map with no units in it. I like building giant battles (I have a Soviet carrier group with 56 ships in it), and was wondering if that would be a problem. And if anyone has tips on building scenarios, I would happily listen! One more thing. Some tips on how to access the Platform Editor would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for being a newbie! Thank you all!
November 22, 200817 yr Welcome (back) aboard, shipmate. The simplest way to get help is to have the file available for others to DL and examine. Just zip it up and attach it to your message. Any number of explanations might be possible. One that comes to mind is the possibility of a 'null group'. This is a group that has been inserted, but doesn't have any units in it. You can check for such a group by cycling through all the groups with the spacebar in the SE.

If you can ZIP up your scenario and post it, maybe I or someone else can try it out and figure out the problem. One thing I can think of you can try. After you create your scenario, do a complete analysis of it (Misc/Analyze Scenario/Complete Analysis), and make sure all warnings are attended to. As to the PE, the menu shortcut should point the the file pfBuild2005.mdb in your Harpoon folder. If the shortcut doesn't work, try opening Explorer and accessing the file directly by double clicking it. This should open the main PE page in MS Access.`Before doing any data manipulation, be sure to read and adhere all the warnings and instructions in the manual, or you can really wreak havoc on your game. Hope this helps. I don't doubt this group will have you designing, creating, and editing platforms and scenarios in a short time. I look foreward to playing one of your giant creations. Buddha
November 22, 200817 yr Can you be more specific about your problems, like what kinds of error messages are you getting?
November 22, 200817 yr Author Okay, Here is the file. I did the analyze scenario thing, and it said there were incomplete parts. I do not know how to set a starting speed, I will set a speed and yet it doesn't show it. Please tell me exactly how to fix anything that is wrong, I would greatly appreciate it! And this is my first ever scenario, so it is fairly simplistic, and I tried to not make anything overly complicated. Thank you for your help! ZACK1111.zip
November 22, 200817 yr Author Okay, I'm not sure what happened with my other post, but it hasn't posted yet, so I thought I would try again. Here is my scenario. Please tell me any problems that I have so I can fix them. Thank you! [CV32: Posts need approval before posting. Hence the delay in seeing them immediately.]
November 22, 200817 yr I do not know how to set a starting speed, I will set a speed and yet it doesn't show it. You need to set the speed before entering the course leg(s).

And this is my first ever scenario, so it is fairly simplistic, and I tried to not make anything overly complicated. Thank you for your help! To set the starting speed, you first plot the path. Then, you have to Edit the path by going back to Point 0 and entering an initial speed. This will get your unit moving. I tried the scen in both GE and ScenEdit and it did not crash on me. Can you provide any additional details on re-creating your crash? IMO, when hunting for bugs, there is no such thing as too much detail. The more you can describe, the faster someone else will be able to try and replicate the crash. You won't be insulting anyone's intelligence if you describe it with, "First, turn on the power. Then load up the game. Hit key A, then B, then Command XXX with Option YYY activated and wait 10 seconds before doing ZZZ...."
November 23, 200817 yr Other than having no starting speeds entered, which is easily fixed, the scenario loads and plays fine on my system. You'll find an alert under scenario analysis about the need to enter the starting speed. Starting speed in the SE can be a little tricky at first. I normally enter the course(s) I want, and then reopen the course setting dialog and backtrack to the starting point. You can then assign the speed you wish, as well as direct speed changes at waypoints if desired. You can also include sensor orders here. You'll also want to create orders for Red and Blue to include with your scenario so the player will be aware of what his mission objectives are. The Orders Writer can do this for you easily once you've decided on the Background/Objectives you have in mind. I hope this helps you. Buddha
November 23, 200817 yr I, too, was able to run the sample program in both the GE and SE. If you are still having that issue, perhaps your Harpoon program got corrupted somehow (I put nothing past anything electrical). You might want to adjust the numbers of and distances between the ships in your Task Forces.
November 23, 200817 yr Author Okay guys, I finally got it to work. My problem was that I kept trying to run my scenario in the wrong battleset *DUH!*. Thanks for all your help!
