Learning Harpoon.

Featured Replies

Hello all from Windsor in the UK.

I have a copy of Harpoon 4.1 and High Tide but never gotten round to playing it. The release of Harpoon V gives me the nudge to really give it a go. I've ordered the print books from wargame vault and downloaded the quickstart. Does anybody have any general advice for a sensible way to go about learning the game? In my experiments in the past, keeping track of unit locations and separation was a bit of a faff, do people recommend going straight to SimPlot 2 for that?

TIA for your suggestions,

Windscale.

Welcome! I am also new and in the process of learning. I and another new person met on discord and we exchange scenarios to play and learn if you'd like to get in with us.

On my own time I have been going through the rules and trimming them down as a lot of points have fluff that don't include actual game impacting mechanics. Next is to make like 1 pagers for shooting, aircraft, etc that will be new player friendly as I run games for friends who do not have the patients to read 100s of pages of rules.

Hi, yeah, I'd be interested in that. Probably be a couple of weeks before my books make it across the pond I expect.

As the creator of SimPlot, I am biased and highly recommend it. 😀  You do not have to wait for your copies of H-V to arrive to begin learning SimPlot.  My documentation for the program is incomplete and somewhat out-of-date, but I designed the program to be as intuitive as possible.  Feel free to post any questions you may have about H-V and SimPlot in this forum.
