March 25, 200818 yr Hi everbody....got some questions about scen design.....premis is japan has fallen to red forces Tokyo,Hamamatsu have approx 300 aircrat ea 12 sam btys 4 other red airbases same 2 btlle grps (cv/bcgn)20SSGN 20SSN in pacific. Blue forces are 4 Cvn Ed lasner 20 CG/DDG/FFG/AOE Guam/Shemya 130 aircraft ea approx question 1 will ai form its own attacks/movement orders for Aircraft/Subs/Ships or must they all be scripted? Q2 will ai use EW assets intellegently or must they be scripted? Q3 all red bases have 10aew 10-20 ew/recn ac is this enough? Q4 all reb bases have total 20ac on cap (su-35/mig-31) enough? Q5 will friendly asw patrols actually use dipping sonar?sprint and drift techniques? Q6 are there any scen out there with this Ed Lasner class in them that are worth checkin out?....just a cool concept and i want to design some scen around it Q7 is there a way to increase unit numbers e.g sam 21a others so red has a stronger asm/ssm defense? also i am not the sharpest spoon in the tree or all that comp smart but i have alot of time on my hands...not workin due to C lookin for a way to use my long day/nite productivly so in advance sorry if these questions are daft but wpuld appriciate any and all help/advice or general heckling

AI attacks against land targets must be scripted. Ship/sub attacks do not, but you do need to give the AI the proper tools. Q2 will ai use EW assets intellegently or must they be scripted? For the most part, scripting is necessary. Q3 all red bases have 10aew 10-20 ew/recn ac is this enough? That is considerably more than you will see in most scenarios, so I'm gonna say "probably", hehe. Q4 all reb bases have total 20ac on cap (su-35/mig-31) enough? Could be, if you have the total numbers on base to back up the rotating patrols (and losses). Q5 will friendly asw patrols actually use dipping sonar?sprint and drift techniques? Yes. Q6 are there any scen out there with this Ed Lasner class in them that are worth checkin out?....just a cool concept and i want to design some scen around it Good question. I don't think there are many scens with it at all. And its Ed Ladner, btw, a pillar of the Harpoon community (even got a ship named after him, hehe). Q7 is there a way to increase unit numbers e.g sam 21a others so red has a stronger asm/ssm defense? Adding more SAM units to the DB is something I work on steadily, but people always clamor for more. Right now I would suggest you fill the gaps with SA-10 variants. Q1 will the AI use the bmbr/attk aircraft on its own e.g. if i attack from a bearing will AI produce its own independant attacks? Q2 Will the tanker assets the AI has been givin be used? or must they be scripted ? Q3 in the scen editor i noticed the SAMs sometimes get placed on water will this affect anything/cause problems? It will do so against player controlled ships and mobile land units, but not against installations. Q2 Will the tanker assets the AI has been givin be used? or must they be scripted ? They won't use them at all, unless they are scripted into an air group. Q3 in the scen editor i noticed the SAMs sometimes get placed on water will this affect anything/cause problems? It doesn't cause any functional problems, but it does look odd and is less than ideal from a scenario play point of view. You can use place them using the formation, and through trial and error it is easy enough to make sure none are in the water. Q4 by tools what do you mean?? The "tools" I am referring to come mostly through experience in writing scenarios. For example, you can write a challenging scenario by learning to give the AI side more and/or better weaponry, positioning the AI units to give some added advantage, giving the AI some reconnaissance and ELINT (electronic intelligence) assets so he can find (and attack) the player with greater coordination, etc, etc.
