Orders (Slight change of plan)

 

Launch helicopter and then resume current movement orders. However, there is to be a change in the timing of the planned version (i.e. not the reaction version) missile launching. Once Palang gets to within 24nm of S005, rather than S008, it will engage that vessel instead of S008. The missile boats will fire as previously instructed.

 

Please let me know if anything is not clear in that.

 

Remarks

 

The DD can't get a radar lock on the Sovvie until it's 16 nm out and so the director won't work. What it can do is fire on the large merchant behind it, which still gives the Sovvie the extra targets to engage.

 

On the flip side, the Soviets will only have a ESM fix on us at best if they have their Ka-25 airborne; we are not in their surface radar detection range.

Ka25 doesn't have an ESM. (one of those annoying things the Russians left off their helos until the new Ka27M)

 

Orders

 

Launch 4xF4s immediately. Fly directly towards S012 at maximum cruise speed (500kts) at LOW altitude (200m).

That should take about 20 minutes by which time the Iranian PTGs should be about 40nm from the convoy.

However, once F4s get to 55nm from the convoy they are to loiter at LOW altitude and await orders. This should put them over the radar horizon from the convoy and thus undetected as yet. Then I'll await warning from SHUK that he is preparing to launch the Harpoons.
