Turn 1130 Detection Phase

Featured Replies

The P-3 has a new ESM detection. Also, the P-3 received a request from the USSR ship to stay at least 25 nm away.

Your ships continue to move into the new formation. The P-3 will stay about 55 nm away from the formation per orders. (I don't have a loiter function in SimPlot. I suppose I could have it go to zero speed, but that would just confuse Blue player :) ).

Did you guys want to classify the surface targets as Blue (hostile)?

Happy to class them as hostile.

I don't have any changed orders at this time.

Agree. Also happy to class them as hostile.

No change in orders at this time.

Remarks

If they're not going to let us get closer than 25nm, then I intend to fire from a distance of 30; possibly at -75, -25. That will give us a three minute missile run time.

At 40nm out, it will probably be time to move your Phantoms towards the initial point.

Yes, it is going to take a wee while for you to close the distance!

You could fire from a fair way out as the sea-skimming Harpoons won't cross their radar horizon until they get within 24nm (I assume we're using Smarter Radars rather than the H4.1 rules regarding airborne SS radars and so the Big Bulge can't detect them). If you fire from 52nm out then the Sov won't detect the Harpoons when they climb to Low altitude on the turn of launch.

Unfortunately, if I launch from 52nm out, that's a full five minutes for the missiles to get there, by which time, the ships may have moved a full 2nm.

But you won't be doing a bearing only launch in this case as we have direct contact and tracking of the targets.

Harpoons can't be mid-course corrected; I have to give a bearing and range for the seekers to go active. The seeker angle is 30 degrees on either side and if I launch too far out, there's a chance, especially if Blue sees your F-4s coming in, of him changing course to the point my weapons don't reach their targets.
