December 29, 20169 yr You have an ESM detection. I goofed a little bit in that the P-3 departed Bandar Bushehr instead of Shiraz. There is actually an airbase at Bushehr, so all is well! turn_1100_red.txt turn_1100_red_intl.txt
December 29, 20169 yr Something else I realised last night is that the Sovvie has a Ka-25 helicopter capable of Over The Horizon missile targeting i.e. the source of the Big Bulge. We can't have that detecting us before we're in position to fire the Harpoons, although we may be able to pop them off bearing only if we have a good enough fix from the P-3 (GM, is that allowed?) Suggest that we send off one of the F-4s to localise it and if it gets too close, we'll have to destroy it. **** Movement Orders for Surface Ships Continue on present course.
December 29, 20169 yr OK, RED AIR ORDERS are, P3 turn onto bearing 110 continue at cruise speed and energise radar and begin surface search. If contacts are detected, close to visual range to identify. Launch Phantoms and at this stage fly at cruise speed to the Iranian vessels and orbit overhead at LOW altitude (300 metres).
December 30, 20169 yr Author We can't have that detecting us before we're in position to fire the Harpoons, although we may be able to pop them off bearing only if we have a good enough fix from the P-3 (GM, is that allowed?) Yes. You will not suffer the BOL penalty if you maintain radar contact. Just be sure to factor in the movement of the enemy ships as Harpoons are not mid-course guided.
December 30, 20169 yr Yes, I noticed. Looked at the Range and Bearing Launch rules. The closer we get the better as a ship can move half a mile in a minute and max flight time for a Harpoon is six minutes.
