November 22, 200718 yr I'm toying around in the 1.0 Vengeance found in the Mediterranean Battleset. I am maneuvering the CVBG back out of the Adriatic Sea and have both a CAP and an AEW + CAP up. The AEW aircraft detected a DDG Suffren in the Libyan port of Tubruk, which I investigate, outside of game, to find out it is a French built AAW destroyer. I believe that the French have had an on again off again love affair with Libya - is this ship considered hostile Libyan Navy, hostile French Navy, or friendly French Navy? Enjoying HCE...again.
November 22, 200718 yr Author SAM Barges. IIRC they cannot be sunk, probably derelic hulls sitting on the bottom. If launching anti-radiation missiles at a radar-guided SAM installation, do the combat effects take their toll on the "appropriate" radar sets of the installation?
November 22, 200718 yr I believe that the French have had an on again off again love affair with Libya - is this ship considered hostile Libyan Navy, hostile French Navy, or friendly French Navy? Enjoying HCE...again. In this case, I'd say the scenario writer intended the Suffren to be neutral French Navy. But of course, this was before the days of true Neutral implementation in HC and so it will be 'hostile' to you. Easy rule in those old battlesets: if its Red, its dead.
November 22, 200718 yr SAM Barges. IIRC they cannot be sunk, probably derelic hulls sitting on the bottom. SAM barges. Cursed attempt at implementing SAM sites outside of Installations. Yeah, they can be sunk. In fact, please sink them all. If launching anti-radiation missiles at a radar-guided SAM installation, do the combat effects take their toll on the "appropriate" radar sets of the installation? Yes, sorta. Knock out the radars, and you declaw the radar guided SAMs. Watch out for optical/IR guided SAMs and AAA, though.
November 22, 200718 yr Author Thanks for clarifying. As you know I was non-HCCE (now HCE) compliant for some time.
November 23, 200718 yr From the next scenario in that group (as it's a "story" type thing): It has been confirmed that a French Warship, the Destroyer Suffren, was in port at Tobruk when the attacks began. Officials have not confirmed the reports but Libyan news sources are reporting that an American Missile hit the French destroyer and that she is now dead in the water and burning less than two miles off the coast. There have been no reports on casualties but one observer said the explosion sent a huge fireball up from the ship. I played that mission you were talking about, annihilated everything in the area with Walleye's, EXCEPT the the Suffren, which I think I hit with a stray HARM, at which I was thinking, wow, they were unlucky.
November 23, 200718 yr Author SAM barges. Cursed attempt at implementing SAM sites outside of Installations. Yeah, they can be sunk. In fact, please sink them all. Sunk, Now to deal with the land based Sa-10b's!
November 23, 200718 yr Author Thet are tough. I had a multi directional attack on a previously damaged Sa-10b battery with 2x EA-6B support. Attackers came in at Very Low and Military Power (probably suicidal) and did destroy the site, but a second "already damaged" site was not suppressed enough, knocking down 3x A-6Eand 1x F/A-18D. November 24, 200718 yr Author Tip: Use those TALD decoys prior to or in combination with SEAD strikes. That's what the Attack Squadron Commander told me. I ran another attack from the carrier. Due to my impatience, it was 4x F/A-18C/D equipped with 6x ADM-141C ITALD decoys each, 2x A-6E (GP), and supported by 2x EA-6B. Target was the Libyan Chemical Plant. The SAM barges as well as the northern-most Sa-10b battery, have been destroyed previously. Those Libyan air forces that have taken off have been harsely dealt with. It has been some time since any have launched. With the EA-6B section in support just off the coast, the two sections of 2x F/A-18C/D were assigned to precede the A-6E attack on the chem plant with decoy attacks on on the Sa-10b battery from both the northwest and northeast. While the decoys lead the way, the section of 2x A-6E's came in low. All worked according to plan until the Intruder egress when both were downed by unknown SAM in the vicinity of the destroyed "SA-10 Site 1" whose report indicates destroyed, and whose icon is somewhat "grayed out". As this scenario is a HC re-integration "test", the coordinated attack with electronic warfare and decoys went well, 'cept for the minor glitch of losing the two Intruders.
