Tactical Laser

Tactical Laser [#]

A new weapon that should be added to the HUD-4 for inclusion with various platforms...

This would allow the addition of a new facility...

ARTY Tactical Laser [#]

I'm not entirely sure how big the ground facility would be, but probably something like a small artillery battery, so perhaps 50 DP in terms of how much damage it could take. The beam would not do THAT much damage, but would certainly be able to kill aircraft, missiles, ships, small vehicles, etc. Maybe a 5 DP blast? I'm not sure how many rounds it would have...I'm guessing an airborne version would have 20, like the COIL, but a ground-based version could have more fuel, power, etc. and maybe it would have 100 rounds available?

Its main disadvantage against ground/sea targets is it has to be fired line-of-sight, but I imagine it has a very high hit percentage and the range would be excellent, perhaps 20 miles. Against aircraft and missiles it would be pretty lethal.

One of the articles above says a prototype has been tested on a C-130. Perhaps this would justify the following platform...

ACL-130 Death Ray [#]

This would basically be a AC-130 with the howitzer removed and the laser installed instead. Basically, it is flying artillery, and vulnerable to attacks from SAMs, fighters, etc., but in return pretty lethal against anything it can target.

Finally, it might be fun to add a science fiction platform...

Flying Saucer [#]

I imagine the flying saucer would be about the size of a CH-53...it needs a Large Helo landing pad, but it could land at airports, on carriers, etc. I'm not sure if you can set an aircraft with Nuclear fuel or not (this would allow the saucer to hover indefinitely). If not, I guess just give it as much fuel as possible...it's an alien vessel so it should be able to fly for fantastically extended periods of time, compared to mere Earthly aircraft. I would list its speeds as Hover (0), Loiter (50); Cruise (500), and Full (5000). I figure it mass 20,000 kg. and has a crew of 5, since you have to list something in those categories. It's air combat ability should be about 10 (compared to, say, the Eurofighter, which I believe is 5.5)...this thing CAN be hit, but it is NIMBLE.

The flying saucer would be armed with two tactical lasers. It has its limits, but a single one could easily wipe out an entire squadron of F-22s. Eek! :)

Mmmm, about that and the Sea Monster:

- Mother ships, small fying saucer figthers and martian tripod walkers implemented on the HCE DB but of very limited use.

- Sea Monster proposed in some old SITREP and conventions, but not implemented.
