One might complain that the British shipbuilding industry has been run down by progressive governments and that Number 10 should be doing more to build it up.

I can certainly see that, though with the damage being done (and pretty much every part of the shipbuilding industry in the Western world has suffered a similar fate), it seems a bit late for the MARS contract if no one in the UK will bid.
