April 19, 201115 yr Hi all, I saw this article today and it spurred some interest: http://www.defensenews.com/story.php?i=626...c=SEA&s=TOP Combined with the news about the Varyag almost reaching completion and US talks about selling or updating Taiwan's F-16's, I think there are some cool possibilities for scenarios here. 1. Growing escalations have led to increased US deployment before crisis. A more balanced scenario with the US having 2 CVBGs, increased air power from Kadena and Andersen, and subs already in position in the Strait and near key Chinese strategic areas. Objective would be to eliminate Chinese air and missile bases. 2. Surprise. US CVBG is out of position, subs are on their usual patrol assignments, regular Air Force squadrons, P-3s shot down (lack of US patrol aircraft), basically the objective would be to hold-onto Taiwan for a day or two as the US gets in gear. 3. World War. Sort of like Brad's scenario 'Lets Go to War', except without Russian aggression, and a CVBG backed Chinese invasion of Taiwan/Japan/Philliphines. US has a CVBG in position, 2 more a day or two away, LOTS of aircraft at Andersen and Pearl, etc. Just thought I'd throw some ideas out there I'm pretty sure there isn't a Chinese carrier/Taiwanese stealth ship in the DB as of yet, although I could be wrong, but it just seems like there is a lack of scenarios in general for this very volatile area of the world. I have 'Lets Go to War' by Brad Leyte, but I don't think I've seen any others that include the Taiwan Strait region as a major AO. Am I correct, or have I just been overlooking stuff? Regards, David
April 19, 201115 yr I'm pretty sure there isn't a Chinese carrier/Taiwanese stealth ship in the DB as of yet, although I could be wrong, but it just seems like there is a lack of scenarios in general for this very volatile area of the world. The Chinese reinvigorated Varyag is in the HCDB as the Shi Lang. The planned Taiwanese 'stealth warship' looks to be simply a low RCS missile boat. I can add that when more specs become available. I have 'Lets Go to War' by Brad Leyte, but I don't think I've seen any others that include the Taiwan Strait region as a major AO. Am I correct, or have I just been overlooking stuff? Regards, David There's also my three part Fury / Anxiety / Resolve series, and probably a few others from other contributors. By and large, though, I think many people steer away from PRC vs Taiwan/USA scenarios because of a (perceived) difficulty in keeping the scenario manageable. It lends itself to a large, busy scenario, which IMHO is not necessarily a bad thing! I'd love to see more of these.
April 19, 201115 yr Author Okay, thank you. I just downloaded those 3, so I'll give them a try later on. I tend to like the larger, more going on scenarios, just because of the added difficulty in management and the fact that there is always something to do (more realistic IMO). Hopefully we'll see some more! David
