January 18, 200719 yr I was perusing Sea of Dragons last night and decided to take a general scenario theme and udate the platforms since that annex is close, if not 10 years old. It will be a PRC/ROC engagement. A PRC amphibious task force of 5x Yuting II Class Large Landing Ships headed to Taiwan, fairly heavily escorted by 1x Type 052C Luyang II DDG, 1x Project 956E Sovremennyy DDG, 2x Type 054 Jiangkai FFG's. This force will "hopefully" be detected by a Knox (2x) or Perry (1x) FFG tripwire, backed up by an E-2C just in case. The cleanup hitters will be 2x Kidd class DD and an on call 4x plane flight of Mirage 2000. The ROC forces are expected to have a tough time and will be graded on how well or to what effect they can disrupt the landing force (5x LLS's). Any comments or suggestions to better depict this engagement before it kicks off? Thanks
January 18, 200719 yr Great idea for a scenario, Pete. Here a few comments which I hope will help you flesh it out ... The ROCAF operates six Hawkeyes, four of them being E-2T aircraft that were upgraded to Hawkeye 2000 standard before 2006 (I think the last may have joined the fleet in 2005), and two E-2K aircraft that joined the fleet in April 2006. They have APS-145 radar and ALQ-217 ESM. I believe all may be operated by the 2nd Electronic Warfare (EW) Sqn at Pingtung (North) in southern Taiwan. If you want the Taiwanese fighters to be capable of air-to-surface ops, you should go with their F-16s rather than the Mirages. The ROCAF fleet of Mirage 2000-5Di/Ei are dedicated to the high altitude, long range, air defense mission. They don't carry any air-to-surface ordnance, other than very capable electronic warfare gear and the ASTAC ELINT pod. I can offer more if you need it.
January 21, 200719 yr Author Data Forms are complete for ex-Kidd Class DDG, Type 052C DDG, Type 054C FF, Knox and Perry FFG's (from last scenario), Sovremennyy DDG, Type 074 Yuting LST, and Ka-28. Next is to determine realistic start and end points for the forces.
