  1. Hmm, that's interesting. Because 3.9.0 weights 215 MB and 3.9.2 weights 253 MB, so it seems like there's been 38 MB of new stuff added just in 3.9.2. And you're saying that a 6 MB 3.9.4 patch carries the same stuff? (and more!) ...just asking.
  2. I just decided to dust off my H3 ANW, but first I need to update it with all the latest patches. The problem is, as I enter the download section of Matrix Games website, I can see like 4 updates since my version (3.9.0.) So my question is, which patches do I need to download, and which already contain previous patches. Or do I need to download and install all of them?
  3. I think I might have some more clues into this bug. First of all, it also happened to me more than once yesterday that when a plane group released from a carrier parted ways with their tanker, I was asked again where do I want to land the tanker and only land-based airports were given. Luckily - if you click Cancel, the tanker will return to its mother ship, so it's OK. But right now I had a very strange situation - a tanker separated from a carrier-launched plane group and in a list of available landing spots there was a carrier supposedly 65nm from this group, while in fact it was at a much further distance. But what I realized is that while this tanker disconnected, I had another group selected by mouse - a different plane group launched from a different carrier - and that one might indeed have been 65nm from its carrier. The corollary would be that by some bug, when a tanker splits from its group, the dialog box asking for a landing spot draws (some or all of) its data from currently selected group, and not from the tanker itself. (I don't know what happens when a base or ship group is selected - maybe then it just works fine.) [sorry, again no game save - I don't know, maybe my autosave doesn't work properly, or maybe I haven't set some option. Theoretically it's set to 1min, but when I tried to open the autosave file, it was from waaay back in time in that mission.]
  4. I didn't realize some missions are created on hypotethical platforms. I thought it's all real-world.
  5. So I'll take it as "by end of January." If Matrix fails to provide the patch by then, they'll see some JDAMs falling onto their headquarters ;-)
  6. Oh, good to know When will the patch be released? I've just checked for updates and it says my game is up to date.
  7. Start a new WestPac mission with Game Options all to Yes except for Full Ordnance. Side: BLUE. Then choose the last mission, "The Backyard", hit New Game - and for me it usually crashes at this point. It seems to have something to do with mission settings, because when I set all Game Options to Yes, it launches just fine. OS: XP Ver: HCE, the latest relase, meaning 2007.000, I guess. DB: Standard one that goes with this release.
  8. Why is the world so "flattened" in WestPac? If it were only for the aesthetical twist, I would have lived with it, but it seems to apply to game mechanics too - and in a random fashion! What I mean here is that some range circles are regular circles, and others are elliptical! It looks really funy, when you consider circles related to the same group. I won't laugh anymore, though, if it will turn out that my missile range is elliptical, while my enemy's is circular, and I won't be able to reach him, while he'll be doing just fine shooting at me!
  9. OK, now I'm really shocked. I've just started the 10th scenario in EC2003 GIUK in my newly bought HCE and what do I find on my aircraft carrier? F-15s! and F-22s! Please, tell me, what's going on here? (And I'm pretty sure I've seen this thing in HC 2002 already.) And please allow me some well-justified irony: Should I expect B-2s launched from enemy aircraft carriers?
  10. Forgive me, but I won't try to give you the whole bug report. I think the screenshot is self-explanatory: a KC-135 tanker landed on an aircraft carrier Just to give you some background (perhaps to help reproduce), I'm still playing HDSI 11.0 in HCE. I have formed an AtG strike group out of 6 F-16s and a KC-135 for range extension. After the refueling was complete, I was asked where should the KC-135 land and among the options were all the aircraft carriers! So I though - what the hell - and decided to try it out . By the way, some time ago in HC 2002 I managed to land some C-130s on an aircraft carrier too
  11. I'm playing HCE, an EC2003 scenario called "Steal Second" (HDSI 11) and I've noticed a very strange thing: Both AGM-64 Phoenix and AGM-120 AMRAAM have a 60nm range. And while the C5 version of AMRAAM indeed is estimated to fly as far as 65 nm, the Phoenix is widely known for its superior range of over 100nm. How is it possible then that here it's so short? On a separate note - while playing another scenario (which I've attached in my previous topic) there's been no possibility to convert any of my aircraft to a tanker. And I did have F-18s and S-3s on my carriers... Is that normal? I mean - what a strike group is worth if it can't reach beyond its strike aircraft (F-18s) range with air refueling? I don't think that could ever happen in reality. (I'm pretty sure I started that mission with Full Ordinance setting to Yes.)
  12. I've just checked with HC 2002 and you're right, Herman. Seems like I haven't operated too many multi-carrier strike groups Thanks for the answer and sorry for the confusion.
  13. Defect Name: Aircraft Grouping Not Logical Build: 2007.000 (Aug 12 2007 Release) Repeatable: Y Operating System: XP Database: I have no idea - the standard thing that goes with HDSC 10.0 Scenario: grouping_problem.zip Long Description: I'm used (HC 2002) to the fact that aircraft flying in one group are in a tight formation that causes them to appear as one icon both on Group Map and Unit Map. In HCE it seems to be different. In the attached scenario, I have launched an attack group comprised of two SEAD A-6s, one SEAD F-18 and two F-14s for AA cover. Unforutnately, HCE for some reason decided that the SEAD aircraft should fly some considerable distance in front of the escort F-14s. Of course, this is very unpractical, because strike aircraft get exposed to enemy fighters. As the screenshot below shows, my SEAD aircraft are going to be attacked in a second, while the F-14 have just missed with their first Phoenix salvo and are unable to save those poor beggars. [There's another, separate F-14 group that is accidentally very close to those escorting ones, sorry for this little hassle in reading the screenshot.] I don't even know if it's a bug or a design flaw. Because if you want to be realistic and not put all planes at one spot, then provide the player with a formation editor for aircraft that would allow to arrange things logically. Expected behaviour: Planes formation should be manageable - either automatically thightly grouped [like in older HC], or formation edition should be possible. Observed behaviour: Planes assume a seamingly random formation within the group, exposing themselves to unnecessary danger Of course, now that I know how it functions, I will send fighters in separate groups, in front of strike aircraft. But that's not how it should work. By-The-Way: The group's Cruise speed is 570kts, which is not what F-14s would do. (In the old HC the group would fly with the speed of the slowest plane.) Is this intended? I assume then that fuel is burned faster by the F-14s and that it's properly accounted, right?
  14. With regard to formation editing - I'm not a control freak, but there's at least one situation when formation editor is really needed - and that is when you cross very narrow straits. Maybe I'm too unexperienced and I'm doing something wrong, but for me the way to pass Gibraltar with a carrier battle group without running aground is to tighten the whole formation so that it really fits through Gibraltar. [Digression: there also seems to be a serious bug in in ground collision detection mechanism, 'cuz I've crashed my ships a number of times, while on the map (big zoom in) they seemed far enough from the shore. But again, that's HC 2002, dunno about current versions.] Anyways, I am aware of that ANW demo and I will definitely try it out. For the sake of objectivity (or laziness ), I will not read the new bug list and see what I can find
  15. Herman, to some extent you're right, but 1) I'm not that frequent player of Harpoon, and so far not a member of the Harpoon player community. (The above post is my first on this forum - together with the other one, very similar, on the other formation editor thread. Sorry for double-posting, for some reason I thought that other post didn't appear.) 2) I love how someone on the other thread said that HC 2002 was the most stable edition... As if not-crashing was something unusual . Maybe I'm used to a different standard of software, maybe I'm spending too much time with highly polished products, but to me "stable" is what makes a product releasable, and not "high-quality". 3) Some of these bugs make an impression that the creators of this Harpoon didn't even play it thoroughly before releasing. To me it is logical that if you had played, say, 10 scenarios of this game from start to end, you would HAVE to encounter such obvious things like formation editor bugs or bingo fuel bugs (that cause your aircraft to crash - HC 2002, dunno about HCE). But, despite all my criticism, I really like this game, so I hope the development quality will improve over time and I still think I might buy the HCE+ANW bundle (...as soon as I get my Visa to be able to purchase over the internet. Geez, I thought issuing a credit card is an obvious thing, but then, maybe banks also have a lot of room for improvement
  16. Unfortunately, formation editor bugs are seem to be very old and very persistent. Yesterday I've played HC 2002 and had same problems as Herman describes in his posts. This is really surprising to see such obvious problems prevailing for so long in a product being supposedly the most sophisticated and accurate naval warfare simulation available to civilians... And to think that I've almost decided to buy the HCE+ANW pack.
  17. Haha, this is an ooold bug. I had the same thing yesterday playing HC 2002 Sometimes it really surprises me how many bugs this game has... And how persistent they are. I was intending to buy the HCE & ANW pack in incoming days, but now that I've seen all those bug reports on the forums...
