  1. Turn 1059 - Plotting Phase: The ESM cross bearings are within 10 nm of Qadir. It appears there was a course change for the unknown unit. I cleaned up some of the ref points, but left the ones that show the starting location of contact and places where the bearings indicated a course change. You have C-802 range circles. turn_1059_red.txt turn_1059_red_intl.txt
  2. Tactical Turn 1054 - Plotting Phase: The ESM cross bearings are now just under 20 nm from Qadir. Never mind that wayward ESM bearing. For unknown reasons, once in a while a bearing will not display correctly. turn_1054_red.txt turn_1054_red_intl.txt
  3. Albert, Try this version of the turn file. I replaced all the decimal points with commas. If it works for you, then I will post both a decimal and comma file for everyone to use. turn_1042_red_intl.txt
  4. Even if you made changes to your turn file, those changes are not sent back to the referee. The data flow is essentially one way--from the ref to the player. To get around this, I envision players requesting the ref to create range circles and ref points as needed. To that end, here are your requested ref points! If you need range circles for things like radar or weapons, let me know. Turn 1042 Plotting Phase Your 30 minutes are up. No new contacts, but the existing ESM bearings have changed. Ref points are plotted at 3 minute intervals at ESM convergence points. turn_1042_red.txt
  5. I think I found the problem. Please download the zip file which has a modified SimPlot app and your turn file for 1012. SimPlot_v1610.zip
  6. Turn 1012 Detection Phase: You pick up an ESM at bearing 237 deg. You identify it as an APS-503 radar. I just encountered a problem with SimPlot not loading your ESM bearings from the turn file. I am looking into it now. Do you have any changes to your orders?
  7. I uploaded the v1.6.0.0 readme file.
  8. Looks like no one else wants to play for now, so we can start. I will be the referee and blue side, and you are red side. I just had a thought. Since there is only one player, I can communicate and pass SimPlot files right here in the forum. Others can follow along by downloading the files, too. The scenario will start as per the Quickstart guide (do you have a copy?) You have 2 Houdong class PTG boats. Please indicate your formation (within visual sight of each other) and course, speed, and sensor status. There is no background map in this scenario, so I will "paint you a picture." North is at the top of the screen. Iran is to the North (50nm behind you), and the Kuwait Oil Terminal is generally to the Northwest. You can expect all traffic to come and go from that direction. Visibility is poor (25%) due to haze.
  9. I will give another few days to see if someone would like to play the blue side.
  10. The Iranians are yours, Albert.
  11. I would like to run a PBEM game based on the Gulf Escort Deja Vu scenario from the H4 Quickstart guide. The game will be played out with SimPlot v1.6.0.0. This will give me a chance to evaluate SimPlot for multiplayer use. My own in-house experiments show promise, but now it's time to play for real. Turns will be played by me until either a new detection is made or we reach a decision point (no set time frame per night--it will be "event driven"). I will then communicate to the appropriate player (sending a new turn file and ask for new orders). It will be inevitable that a player may not get an email from me every night. You will definitely get one when something happens. The game will resume when I get a response. Given the simple scenario and limited units, I am hoping for immediate responses to requests for orders (within 24 hours). I can send/receive emails after 7PM Eastern Time. I need two players. Please indicate here your willingness to play. If all goes well, then I would consider playing other scenarios from the H4 Quickstart guide. I like those scenarios, and I never had a chance to play them with others. Kevin
  12. File Name: Eastern Baltic File Submitter: kmart494 File Submitted: 03 Apr 2016 File Category: Maps This is a map of the eastern portion of the Baltic Sea near Estonia. The map is intended for use with the "Blow in the Baltics" scenario from Harpoon Naval Review 2000. Shown are the letter codes for the various sub-scenario starting locations. The map scale is 4.1 pixels/nm. Click here to download this file
  13. File Name: One China - Port Arthur 2 File Submitter: kmart494 File Submitted: 03 Apr 2016 File Category: Scenarios This is the setup file for the One China - Port Arthur 2 (Lushun Revisited) scenario from Harpoon Naval Review 2000. Several units are placed on screen, but the exact location and formation of the PRC task force and Helix helicopters would have to be determined by the Red player. The map for this scenario is available in the map download section. Click here to download this file
  14. File Name: Port Arthur (Lushun) File Submitter: kmart494 File Submitted: 03 Apr 2016 File Category: Maps This is a map of the Port Arthur (Lushun) area of the People's Republic of China. This map is intended to be used with the One China - Port Arthur 2 scenario from Harpoon Naval Review 2000. The graphic is "fine scale" because the scenario is primarily an ASW exercise, and so the map is smaller but has finer detail than most other SimPlot maps. The map scale is 10.9 pixels/nm. 15. Updated the unit locations as the scenario map scale changed due to the conversion from Statute Miles to Nautical Miles.
  16. I updated the map scale to account for the conversion from Statute Miles to Nautical Miles.
  17. I updated the map scale to account for the conversion from Statute Miles to Nautical Miles.
  18. I updated the scale from 1.5 pixels/nm to 1.7 to account for the conversion from Statute Miles to Nautical Miles.
  19. File Name: One China - Skunks File Submitter: kmart494 File Submitted: 02 Apr 2016 File Category: Scenarios This file is for the "Skunks" scenario from the "One China" scenarios in Harpoon Naval Review 2000. The starting position of most units is included, but the PLAN SAG group formation will need to be determined and put into the scenario before beginning the battle. This scenario is designed for use with the Northern Taiwan / PRC map. Click here to download this file

Uploaded SimPlot v1.6.0.0. I have added the ability to delete and preserve a unit. Units that are preserved will stop all movement and can no longer be modified. The last location and movement track for preserved units will still be visible (using the new "Deleted Units" status bar button at the bottom of the window). I have also added a Units menu in the menu bar. You will now have the option to use either the function keys or the menu bar to add units, modify units, change perception, range circles, ESM/SONAR bearings, and delete units. Old scenario files will not work with v1.6.0.0. If you want to use them, there is a simple fix. For each unit in the scenario file, locate the text line of the unit definition (the line begins with the unit id). Add "|False" to the end of each unit definition line and that should work. If there are any problems, please let me know. Happy Harpooning!
  21. File Name: One China - Bogies File Submitter: kmart494 File Submitted: 02 Apr 2016 File Category: Scenarios This is the "Bogies" scenario from the "One China" scenario trio in Harpoon Naval Review 2000. This scenario file shows the starting locations for units with a fixed location, and the general areas for units or formations that would be set up per player desires. The exact composition and formation of the US CVBG, the CVBG airborne assets, the PLAAF attack aircraft formations, and the PLAN submarine locations would have to be determined and put into the scenario before beginning the battle. This scenario is designed to use the Northern Taiwan / PRC map. Click here to download this file
  22. File Name: Northern Taiwan / PRC File Submitter: kmart494 File Submitted: 02 Apr 2016 File Category: Maps This map depicts the area of northern Taiwan and a portion of mainland PRC. The map was created for use with the "One China" sub-scenarios "Bogies" and "Skunks" from Harpoon Naval Review 2000. The map scale is 3.9 pixels/nm. Click here to download this file
  23. A word of caution regarding the map scale--I just discovered that some of my existing map scales may not have been converted from Statute Miles to Nautical Miles before making the scale calculation. Since SimPlot works in Nautical Miles, please be sure to make the conversion as I believe most (if not all) Internet mapping sources use Statute Miles.
  24. The following are procedures you can use to make background maps for Harpoon/Simplot scenarios. Presently, there are no "official standards" for SimPlot maps. I am still experimenting with various color combinations to make the gaming experience better. If a scenario does not require the presence of land features or specific starting points, ending points, or objectives, then a background map is not necessary. Procedures for using Internet maps: 1) Using your favorite Internet mapping website, select an area of interest for your scenario. If the area is not very large, then you may be able to get the entire area within the screen. 2) Using your favorite graphics/imaging program (such as GIMP, Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, etc.), import the map via screen capture. Be sure to get the entire screen especially the map scale bar. 3) Get the map scale in terms of pixels per nautical mile by measuring the scale bar pixels and dividing by the miles on the scale. This value is extremely important for SimPlot. When creating a new scenario with a map, users are prompted for the map scale. Without the scale, the map will not be displayed correctly (or at all). 4) This step is optional and time consuming. Using layers in your image editor, you can paint over the land and water areas. Also, you can add city names (I also use a small plus sign "+" to mark the location) and country names. National borders can also be added (these may be important for moving air units). I am currently using dark green for land areas, black for water, and grey for borders and place names. So far, these colors allow for good unit visibility. Feel free to experiment with your own color combinations. A word of caution--using a transparent sea area caused my Paint Shop Pro editor to create crappy looking text for the place names. That is why I am using black now. 5) Create a scenario folder under the SimPlot folder. Save the image as a PNG file to the folder. Please retain an original copy of your work (with layers). You may need to change something later. 6) Run SimPlot and create a new scenario. Select the folder and map you just made, and type in the scale. Save the scenario file in the same folder as the map (the scale will be saved with the scenario file). You are now ready to play SimPlot with your cool background map. Procedures for using published maps: 1) and 2) If the map is a part of a PDF document, you can either extract the image to your editor or import a screen capture. For maps that are in printed form, you will have to scan them into your editor. 3) through 6) The procedures are the same as above. NOTE: If you want to create a larger map but desire a smaller scale for the increased detail, you can "stitch" multiple screen captures together to form one large map. Perform screen captures of the desired area by moving the on-screen map around without changing the scale. Using layers, you can overlap the images until they match. You may need to create a large blank image first--one that is large enough to encompass the entire area. You can crop it when you get the layers matched up.
