  1. Rogue Warrior (Part 6 of 7)
Campaign 4 - The War with UBAN
    New World Order series
    EC2000 NACV battleset

The aggression of UBAN in the Middle East and Persian Gulf regions, and more ominously, the open support for the UBAN exhibited by the NSC, has had widespread reverberations. When war broke out in the Persian Gulf, a NSC carrier battlegroup was on exercise off the coast of Morocco. Its operations in the Atlantic were apparently unscheduled, the group having already carried out the bulk of planned maneuvers in the Gulf of Sidra in August 1995. The nearest NATO group was off the Azores, enroute to Brest and returning from support of peacekeeping efforts in Angola. It was immediately turned around and chopped to the Med.

A medium-sized NSC naval group returning from a visit to Cuba has managed to slip in close to the Canadian coast and has destroyed several merchant vessels, including a luxury cruise liner (the NSC claims it was a disguised intelligence collection ship). We did not expect to have such a dangerous enemy force so close to our own shores, and available assets are limited. Eliminate the threat quickly and decisively.

This scenario examines the submarine vs submarine battle in the coastal waters of Canada. The primary mission is to find and sink enemy cruise missile submarines before they can attack surface shipping and land-based targets.

With the NSC carrier group effectively dismantled, the NATO group has passed safely into the Med. Dangers continue to abound, however, in the mid Atlantic. NSC submarines are attacking merchant traffic in the sea lane. Unfortunately, the Coalition has few naval ASW assets available in the area. Most of the sub hunting will therefore have to be done by aircraft operating from shore bases.

The encroachment of Breakwater 9 and the destruction of Turkish bases by NSC military forces has escalated this conflict into world war. The NATO group has now been tasked with the destruction of the NSC group as a prelude to its entry into the Med. A French naval group will be providing support.

The blatant refusal of NSC forces to recognize the GIUK embargo and the continued threat of choking off access to the Med has left the Coalition with little choice but to reinforce local defences. The politicians are working feverishly to avoid it, but the diplomatic picture looks grim.

The Coalition has made formal request to the NSC for safe passage of the NATO group through the Straits of Gibraltar. The NSC has responded by saying that it will allow the group to pass only if its entire contingent of aircraft and all VLS-capable escorts remain in the Azores. This, of course, is unacceptable. It seems we must prepare for open armed confrontation with the NSC fleet.

  7. Two on One (Part 3 of 3)
Campaign 5 - The Iberian Conflict
    New World Order series
    EC2000 NACV battleset

In August 1996, increased Basque terrorism in Spain and a new hardline government in Madrid led to a brutal crackdown on ethnic Basque communities. The conflict spilled over into an international incident when Basque refugees fled to France for safety. Spanish military forces pursued and attacked suspected Basque terrorists in French territory. The French were not at all pleased with the incursions, and dispatched their own troops to shut down the border. Accusing France of harboring terrorists, Spain vowed retaliation.

When a Portuguese fishing vessel was misidentified and destroyed by a French Exocet missile, the Portuguese government, already supporting Spain politically, joined the war against France. By this time the French carrier group, recovering from its engagement with the Spanish task force, had been deployed to the Strait of Gibraltar to prevent a threatened Spanish blockade against French merchant shipping. (Released December 2000).

As soon as French naval combatants had been dispatched, the Spanish responded by gathering and deploying a task force of their own. The two groups met off the coast of Portugal. (Released December 2000).

The opening scenario in this series shows how the war between France and Spain opened with an air battle. The struggle for air superiority over the Iberian Peninsula reached a climax when a French civilian airliner was accidentally shot down by the Spanish air force. With the nation clamoring for blood, the French Navy put to sea. (Released December 2000).

  10. Heavy Presence (Part 2 of 2)
Campaign 8 - Atlantic Resource Conflict
    New World Order series
    HDS3 NACV Battleset

Canada and Spain had quarrelled before about the right to fish resources on the continental shelf off Newfoundland. Fortunately that dispute had largely been verbal in nature. But now, in the 21st century, with global resources growing ever smaller, the Spanish were back ... in force. Instead of heeding a warning from the Canadian government to stay outside a newly declared 300 nm EEZ, the Spanish refused to recognize the new boundary and sent warships to escort their fishing fleet. The Spanish have deployed their light carrier Principe de Asturias to the Grand Banks. In response, the Canadian Armed Forces have
reinforced air assets at St. John's and Shearwater. Spanish intentions are unknown, but it is expected that they will use the carrier to provide an umbrella over their fishing fleet. (Released September 2000).

Instead of heeding a warning from the Canadian government to stay outside a newly declared 300 nm EEZ, the Spanish refused to recognize the new boundary and sent warships to escort their fishing fleet. Spanish Navy vessels are patrolling inside the Canadian 300 nm EEZ, maintaining contact with their fishing fleet and shadowing Canadian Fisheries surveillance vessels. Efforts at diplomacy are underway but both sides seem determined to have it their way. The Canadian government has dispatched a naval group to show its fortitude. (Released September 2000).

EC2000 Battle for the Atlantic Ocean

An enemy force of no less than 8 Russian and European carriers, supported by numerous surface escorts and submarines, are heading west to assault two critical BLUE bases at Keflavik and Lajes. Opposing them you have at your disposal three carrier battle groups centred around the US carriers George Washington, Harry Truman and Ronald Reagan. Land based air support will be minimal. Defend the shore bases and destroy the enemy carrier force. (Released April 2003).

  13. The European Federation Enters the Atlantic
    EC2000 Battle for the Atlantic

The European Federation now controls the Baltic, and has captured bases on the British Isles, sending the Royal Navy scattering to friendly ports. The North Sea is firmly in Federation hands. The British Parliament has become split over the topic of joining the European Federation and abandoning its alliance with the Americans. A handful of ships stationed off Norway and two carrier groups steaming up through the Denmark Straits is all that stands in the way of the Federation plowing south and making a second attempt at wresting Iceland from the Allies, and securing the North Atlantic.

  14. Variant on the Hudson Bay/Icelandic Assault
    EC2000 Battle for the Atlantic

This variation on the EuroFed4 scenario finds the Federation bringing a larger fight into the Hudson Bay. By conducting maneuvers in the Bay before hostilities began, the Federation had pre-positioned an effective fighting force, able to provide sufficient offensive cover for an assault on North America - a ploy to pin down available Allied fighting forces, while the real target may well be the Icelandic ports. The Federation will attempt to destroy as much Allied naval power as possible, and will target amphibious assets in particular.

  15. The European Federation at the Gates to the Med
    EC2000 Battle for the Atlantic

In controlling the North Atlantic, the Federation stands to gain control over the entrance to the Med. Even now Arab sentiment and careful negotiations with the Federation may reap a fruitful agreement on a joint participation in the control of the Mediterranean Sea. By holding bases at the entrance, specifically Gilbraltar and some naval ports, the Federation begins to consolidate its power base in the Mediterranean. There are some who believe that Italy grows weary, and may draw back from their membership in the Federation, but only if 1.) Spain stays out of the Federation - an important partner to acquire if the Federation expects to maintain control of the Straits of Gilbraltar, and 2.) The Allied effort proves that it is incapable of keeping the Med a free seaway.

  16. The Federation attempts to close the Atlantic
    EC2000 Battle for the Atlantic

Having been kicked out of Gilbraltar and Spain, the Federation does regain a foothold on the Eastern Atlantic by storming the Canaries. This was made possible due to the withdrawal of the major Allied forces stationed in Lajes, who were needed in the ensuing brawl brewing in the Mediterrranean with the rise of the Near East Federation. The rest were recalled to Norfolk, Brooklyn and New London. Apparently, Langley had received good information about a possible coordinated attack on Bermuda and the Eastern seaboard of the United States, the object being to contain the U.S., while isolating American assets in the Mediterranean. With the fear of being spread too thin, the Pentagon supported this strategy, and the Allies pulled out of the Canaries. It was this mistake made by the Pentagon of which the Federation took advantage. By seizing the Canary Islands, they acquired a base from which to launch the coordinated attack previously warned by intelligence. Isolationists' voices clamoring in Congress no longer fall on deaf ears, as an anti-war sentiment grows in the U.S. with these further setbacks. But cooler heads argue that by losing any further ground places the U.S. in an untenable position, subservient to the whims of the Federation. The will to fight prevails, with a newer vigor. It is clear that to lose Bermuda and be contained not only loses American assets already stationed in the Med and in the Indian Ocean, but also opens a freeway to invasion into South America, the soft underbelly of the Americas.

  17. Battle Ocean 1990
    EC2003 Atlantic

First of the Battle Ocean 1990 series. These scenarios are set in an alternate universe. In 1990, the government in Iran collapsed and the country was plunged into chaos. The Soviet Union decided to take advantage of this to gain control of Iran's oil and its warm water ports. It invaded, quickly smashed the Iranian military, and took control of the country. The United States and its allies have condemned the invasion. The Soviet Union and its allies know that the West will eventually attempt to liberate Iran. Along with moving naval forces into the Persian Gulf, they have initiated a campaign of attacks against Western industrial facilities, military bases, and merchant shipping around the world. Their primary goal here is to weaken the West to the point where it will be unable to drive the Soviets out of Iran. In addition, they hope to damage the economies of the United States and its allies badly enough to leave themselves in a position of increased global influence. With all other assets dedicated to other missions, battle group AAC (Flag Ranger) must intercept and destroy a Soviet battle group en route to the Persian Gulf. The battle group is believed to include a carrier and several escorts. In addition, you must locate and destroy several Soviet submarines that will otherwise represent a threat to merchant shipping headed towards and leaving Great Britain and Norway; it is likely these submarines are in the waters between Iceland and Scotland. (Released October 2004).

  18. The Cold North
    EC2003 Atlantic

The Russian military has been experiencing a loss of discipline and an increase of desertions and mutinies among its ranks brought on by little or no pay and loss of morale. Of late, several older ex-Soviet warships that were laid up prior to decommissioning have turned up missing. More disturbing is the fact that the ammunition for these warships stored in a nearby warehouse, prior to their destruction have also turned up missing. In another development, Oil has been discovered in and around the coast of northern Greenland and several oilrigs and a base camp has been set up. Contact has been lost with the whole operation. It is feared that an unknown force has seized the facilities. NATO has been tasked to investigate. (Released January 2005).

  19. Hungry Lion (Battle Ocean 1990 series)
    EC2003 Atlantic Ocean

It is 1990 and the world is at war. The Soviet Union has invaded and occupied Iran. The United States and its allies demanded that the Soviet Union remove its forces from Iran immediately and threatened to use force if necessary. The Soviet Union responded with a series of lightning strikes that destroyed a large number of military bases in Europe. The Soviets then initiated a massive campaign of submarine warfare designed to cripple the West. Their goal does not appear to be to invade Europe but to leave the West so weak that it will be unable to force them out of Iran until their control of that country effectively becomes the status quo. 20. Labrador Lightning (Battle Ocean 1990 series)
    EC2003 Atlantic Ocean

The collapse of fish populations around the world due to overfishing has created serious international friction. This is particularly true in the Atlantic. More and more often, European fishing boats have illegally entered Canadian waters. Canada has attempted to resolve the issue via diplomatic channels, but without success. Two months ago, the Canadian people elected a new government. The new Prime Minister warned that Canada would deal harshly with illegal fishing. Barely a month later, Canadian warships sank three Spanish fishing boats in the Labrador Sea; twenty Spanish sailors perished in the icy waters. Spain has declared it will not tolerate these barbarous acts. It has warned Canada that its fishing fleets will now be protected by naval vessels and that any Canadian warships approaching them will be fired on. Other European nations have also expressed their outrage at these events. Whether they will assist Spain in any Atlantic operations remains to be seen. The United States has tried to serve as a moderator and ease tensions between Canada and Spain, but has met with little success to date. (Released June 2006).

  21. Second War Between the States
    EC2003 Atlantic Ocean

The Northern United States finally called for an end to the Southern Drawl. This announcement was followed shortly by an embargo of pop flowing North from the South. As a matter of common understanding war broke out immediately. Hence the Second War Between the States began. This is a remake of the battleset scenario. (Released November 2006).
