October 3, 200916 yr I was wondering if others also have problems with the staff assistant recommending turning on radar. I wouldn't mind one recommendation, but the staff assistant keeps badgering me. If I have many groups that are effective, this really makes a busy situation almost unplayable. For surface groups, turning on the radar normally provokes a missile attack, which can be overwhelming. Often the group is protected by AEW aircraft which allows me to judge when it is necessary to turn on the radar. If it is a distant aircraft that is loitering, the staff assistant badgering can go on for quite some time. For air groups, I would rather not have a warning that another group is within missile range. If I turn on my radar, nothing usually happens other than I have revealed my group. If I don't turn it on I keep getting bothered by the staff assistant. Since the I had to be aware of the enemy group for the warning to be issued, I don't see the point. It wouldn't be a problem if one message was issued, but staff assistant keeps pestering. In a busy situation the number of staff assistant messages are sometimes overwhelming. It would be nice not to have a lot of un-necessary ones. Smitty
October 3, 200916 yr The Staff Assistant used to be referred to awhile ago as the ASA (Annoying Staff Assistant) pretty much for those reasons. Also, if you ask him for a recommendation, he never has one. His appearances can be semi-useful as by bringing events to a screeching halt, you get a chance to catch your breath and figure things out. Perhaps if he were able to ask once "Sir, we are being detected by radar from enemy group ZXY. Would you like to turn on our radar? (Yes/No)" and never ask again for that contact, he might be less annoying.
October 3, 200916 yr Yeah, the Staff Assistant isn't nearly as annoying as he used to be, and truth be told, if you receive repeated prompts to activate your radar (to the point that they become annoying), it is likely that you are being painted by enemy radar and you might as well energize your own radar anyway. Your position has already been compromised.
