Database Limitations

Featured Replies

How many different platforms, weapons, installations, etc will the database handle?

I went into the PE and made a new missile entry. The scenario editor/game would not accept the new entry, either gave a warning and closing or it wouldn't open. Same thing happened when I created the BCGN USS Colorado class. (Although I created a new OPV class surveillance vessel and a Chinese C-14 missile boat class that have been accepted.) I deleted the new entry and the the editor and game worked. I also went in an deleted a "do not use" JDAM bomb (ordinance) figuring that I had simply too many weapons. I replaced the deleted ordinance with a "RATTLR" hypersonic land attack missile currently in development. I went into the platform editor and edited a couple of loadouts and mounts, swapping in the new missile. When I went into the game there was a "getannexerror" warning but the game would run and the missile would work. However, when I went into the scenario editor, the editor crashed and the data in the user scenario I was editing was erased. (Shot myself in the head there.)

So my thought is there are numerical limitations on the type of weapons; ie: # of missiles allowed, # of torpedoes allowed, etc in addition to the total limitations. ????

I have a lot of fun playing with the PE and would be interested in knowing what it can and cannot accomplish.

Thanks,

Its unlikely that you exceeded the maximum allowable number of individual weapon types.

Chances are you built a missile (or other weapon) in a numerical range that was meant for other weapon types.

For example, in any database, the next empty weapon slot will be for a "Nuclear" weapon. You don't use that slot (unless you're building a Nuke, of course), but skip to the next available slot. Have you been doing that?

I get the idea that I need to manual add the next id # for the sub-class of weapon to get it to work.

New issue: I created a class BCGN Colorado, a hypothetical battlecruiser. The class shows up in the scenario editor when you run platform display. Everything looks like it did when I inputed it into the PE. However when I try to allocate a vessel to a group I get "Sorry, there are no names available for this class". I have inputed into the name section for the class in the PE 5 names. Any clues as to what's happening?

Thanks,

Brad,

I got up this morning and was reviewing my question from last night. Sorry I got you confused with Tony.

Thanks

Definitely not. ID numbers should be assigned automatically when you choose the weapon type. The ID number might not appear right away until you have filled in a number of fields, but weapon type will determine the ID number.

Odd. I assume you've went back and double checked that the names are there in the DB. Also, make sure there are no other ships in your scenario that share the same name, because you can only use the same name once, regardless of ship type or class. Beyond that, I'd expect some other error is happening behind the scenes.

I thought about the possibility that you can only have one used name for a ship/sub per scenario. So I did rename the ships to BCGN 1 through BCGN 5 and that did not help. Oh, well, I'll delete it and try again.

Got it figured out. For what ever reason, the id # for the ship class was recorded as 3055. The prior class # was 3053. When I edited the id # to 3054 everything showed up and worked fine.
