April 13, 200719 yr Set up the belligerants tonight. Iranian airbases, aircraft squadrons, air defense brigades, naval vessels (including fast attack craft and "speedboats capable of attacking tankers with rockets, and sowing "limited" mines), and Silkworm missile batteries. Iraq, two air bases and a handful of squadrons. Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, and Oman - airbases and squadrons - only Saudis seem to have really good aircraft. US: CV-63, CVN-68, SSN, BB, outside of the gulf, on the strategic map, also 2x B-52 squadrons, P-3, F-15, the US Supply Head, CH-47, and 5th Marine Amphibious Brigade on Diego Garcia. Various USN surface combatants and tactical aircraft within the gulf. Iraqi and Iranian players earn 10 points for each tanker that completes a round trip into the gulf, to a oil facility, spending a full turn there loading, and back out) without suffering any hits. 1 hit = 5 points. There are a few lesser scoring opportunities. First turns over the weekend. Good gaming.
April 15, 200719 yr Author As pomised, here are two photos of Gulf Strike. One an overview trying to encompass all of the playing area. The second shows the general situation at about the middle of the first Game Turn. US Forces are assembling in the Gulf of Oman. The topmost units, sort of blurry, is Bandar Abbas. Below that is an Iranian Tanker docked at the Oil Terminal at Larak Island. There is a Silkworm battery and air defense brigade on Qeshm. Toward the left you can see Iranian speedboats, and I believe another silkworm battery, at Abu Musa, a second tanker approaching the Sirri Oil Terminal, and more speedboads at Sirri. Just below that is the USN escorted tanker convoy consisting of two re-flagged tankers. This convoy has fended off harrassment attacks by both enemy speedboat units. All in all great fun on a rainy sunday afternoon.
April 20, 200719 yr Author Water Table receded Thursday. Dry-out operations continue. Hope to be able to run through some additional turns this weekend.
