Troop loadouts for helicopters

Featured Replies

Here is a request/question...

Most of the aircraft that can deliver troops don't actually have any troops on them. When I look at things like the UH-60 Blackhawk, the TRP loadouts only show the ready time, not any "weapons."

The one exception is that a few of the French helicopters do have a French infantry unit as a "weapon." I haven't tried them out yet but I assume they just function something like a bomb. If you hit your target with the troops, it takes damage. HCE does this.

When will the troops be added as actual "weapons" for aircraft? (Or am I just missing how to use them that way somehow?) I'm looking forward to putting together some scenarios with helicopter-borne troops, paratroopers, etc.

Hi Mark,

You've in fact raised one good point. I've erased most of the troops loadout from helicopters, since ASW helos aren't big enough to hold an infantry "team" (let's use this generic term). In the upcoming developments of HUD-4, I've thought about having troops loadouts for dedicated platforms. Paratroopers are also a project I have. I'd love to use them with the boarding/takeover feature (it would be great to have the 82nd being paradropped over Baghdad Intl' airport), but it would mean to have all aircrafts (including the F-15) being able to board/takeover structures, not really what I wish. Troop loadouts actually behave like a bomb, you're right.

So far, I've done only French, to see if my concept works. As I'm rather pleased with the result, work will start for other countries as well. Soon, there will be also naval infantry for Russia/USSR and other countries, but I need to dig the countries' TO&E.

1st of November's update:

Work has begun on troops loadout. Now there will be only troops to helicopters with the TRAN (for Transport) flag. Many new heli/airborne corps have been added: US paratroopers, German Fallschirmjaeger, UK SAS, Russian VDV paratroopers and Spetsnaz. Loadout name has been changed for Rangers, instead of x platoons, there are 4 entries (1 Plt, 2 Plts, 1 Co, 2 Cos). All are given the ability to attack land and naval structures.

Great! You´re doing a wonderful job. I´ll finish a scenario with HUD 3 V 1.6.1 today and then I´ll switch over to HUD 4.

I was very pleased to see troops added to the HUD 4 v 1.1 b8 database. However, all of their "warheads" were set to 0 damage points.

I played around a little with the editor and gave them killing power.

I am tentatively setting the "warheads" at 24 damage points for the Boarding Party and 36 damage points for the other units (USMC Squad, Royal Marine section, etc.).

This seems pretty reasonable, compared to damage done by other weapons and the amount of damage various targets can take before being destroyed, although I suspect the values may be revised by more knowledgeable persons than myself for the beta 9 version of the database.
