Svalbard Oil 1: The Blockade In a surprise move Russia landed troops in Longyearbyen ten days ago and occupied some of the major oil platforms. Norway filed a protest with the UN and requested formal NATO assistance, which immediately was granted. NATO is now assembling forces to break the blockade around the Svalbards, but Norway does not want to wait and intends to show the flag, while Russia reinforces her new possessions.
