Armed civilian boats (and unarmed criminal ones)

Featured Replies

A number of civilian boats that are not currently armed could have armed versions. This would allow one to simulate various kinds of police and criminal vessels.

CIV 5 m. Speedboat

Small Arms <-- a terrorist version with machine guns is already available (I might change the 12.7 mm. machine gun to a 7.62 mm. machine gun), but an additional version could be added where the people aboard only have a few pistols and rifles. Obviously, the boat couldn't stand up to much, but might give a coast guard helicopter or some other lightly armed patrol platform a bit of trouble.

CIV 10 meter cruising yacht

Small Arms (see above)

CIV Boston Whaler

Small Arms <-- this could be used to represent harbor police, etc.

CIV 42' Motor Cruiser

Small Arms <-- this could represent a boat with armed criminals or a police boat

CIV Generic barge

Unarmed <-- there is already a well-armed version of the barge (terrorist hideout?) but there really should be one that is just...well...a barge. That is, just use the same platform but take all the weapons off.

MRCH - Freighter (22kt)

Nuke <-- this represents a cargo vessel with a terrorist nuclear weapon hidden somewhere aboard; its goal is to sail into port and blow up. I guess the 20 kt PRC FF #2 nuclear bomb could be used to simulate the warhead?

MRCH - Container Ship (22kt)

A few more variations (and I changed the format slightly because the loadout should not be part of the ship's name...that would give too much away!)...

CIV - Drifter

Unarmed <-- the armed version is obviously being used by criminals, etc.; this one is just a light boat that might be used by civilians

CIV - Lifeboat

Unarmed

Max. Speed: 0

Database Text: A generic lifeboat

This was mentioned by someone else as a possibility...basically, just use the Drifter, but remove all weapons and change the maximum speed to 0.

(A more lethal version of the "harmless fishing boat"..., the Skiff-C version, basically...)

CIV - Sanpan - Fishing [Lines]

Small arms <-- a version of this kind of vessel that is actually used for fishing and is not basically a small warship disguised as a fishing boat

Here's another one...

Merchant - Tramp Steamer

1 x 76 mm. dual purpose gun (possibly the AK-726, maybe a twin-mount)

2 x AAA guns (possibly 37 mm.)

2 x automatic cannon (most likely 25 mm. or 30 mm.)

2 x SA-7 B (with several more in a magazine...i.e., they can be reloaded)

This is a "things fall apart" scenario platform...in the near future, if things got really bad in some parts of the world, breakaway regions, city-states, etc. might begin to arm small merchants to give themselves something akin to an actual navy. I'm assuming the weapons here might be salvaged from old Soviet, Russian, Chinese, etc. warships. These are very much low budget, do it yourself affairs, and would stand little chance against a modern warship with cruise missiles. However, they would be able to beat the crap out of things like fishing boats and armed speed boats and they would be to conduct limited shore bombardments with the DP gun. Half-a-dozen ships like this could be a real game changer in a small conflict between factions in a civil war, etc.

And a second, slightly tougher version...

Merchant - Tramp Steamer

1 x 76 mm. dual purpose gun (possibly the AK-726)

2 x AAA guns (possibly 37 mm.)

2 x automatic cannon (most likely 25 mm. or 30 mm.)

1 x SAM system (possibly 8 x HQ-7 or 4 x SA-4 or 4 x Igla-1M...small, short range missiles but bigger than the shoulder-launched affairs in the first version)

1 x RBU 6000 ASW mortar (with reloads)

Any progress on these? I've got a couple of scenario ideas I'd like to use some of them in. Thanks!
