Cold War Era units for HUD4

Featured Replies

I just downloaded HUD4 today and was playing around with it. I tried to create a scenario circa 1986/87 time frame and found that most of the units for the US are post Cold War outfittings. Is there any way we could get some of the units built into the HUD to represent the high time of the cold war the late 70's and 80's?

Hi there,

Could you be more specific in your request? Be aware there is a special thread called "requests" to post about such things. Apologize in advance if your platform isn't added/altered, between real life and development matters, we're in the period it's not really easy. Also appreciated the fact to have people reporting issues they may meet, so platforms are corrected.

Gunny,

What I was looking at specifically is that I am working on building a few scenarios for the early 1980's. While loading up a unit like the Tarawa class LHA's I see the only option is the post DS refit versions that had the 5" guns removed and had RAM installed. That makes it harder to build some semi-accurate scenarios for the 1980's if RAM is being installed in the ship. I also like to play with class/time restrictions in place and was noticing that the LPH Iwo Jima class wasn't loading while trying to build a scenario in 1983, so I wasn't sure what the problem was or if my bad eyes was missing it in the selection phase. Finally, I didn't know there was a DB request thread.

Southern Air Pirate,

Even if it's not the correct thread, I'll consider you ask for a version of the Tarawa in its 80es' configuration. It's one of my projects, to have as many as possible sub-variants of platforms, reflecting evolutions during their time in service.

Quick note: I've checked the Iwo Jima issue. Maybe you didn't see it, since it has only date of commissionning filled, the decommissionning date is left blank, so it means "still in service".

Gunny,

A quasi-fix in some cases is that you can fiddle with the weapon loads, using the Logistics command. Not all weapons are covered, but you can sometimes unload the default weapons and then add weapons used earlier or later. (Mind you, you cannot unload the MOUNTS, just the missiles, torpedoes, etc. that are being carried).

For example, I was playing around with a scenario set in the early 1970s...with the ships I was using, I could do it (sort of) by removing the Harpoons (that is, changing the number loaded from 4 to 0) and switching the RIM-66C missiles to RIM-66B. This won't work all the time, but it's an option. And I imagine it's a LOT easier if you're setting the scenario in the actual scope of the database (1980-2015). I'm fascinated by the possibilities of the 60s and 70s for scenarios, so I'm often playing around with ideas (and trying to con Gunny into adding a few extra platforms), but it becomes progressively harder the further back before 1980 I go.

I hope this helps.
