The U.S. Army Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama published a notice on Aug. 4, 2026, announcing its intent to award a sole-source contract, meaning a deal negotiated with only one company rather than opened up to competitive bidding, to Boeing for the production of up to 12 new AH-64E Apache attack helicopters, the […]View the full article

A small Israeli defense startup has put a mystery device through a brutal round of real-world stress testing, and the company is being unusually candid about exactly which parts still need work. In what Air Force officials described as the earliest such integration in modern test history, an operational test pilot flew the B-21 Raider alongside a developmental test pilot at Edwards Air Force Base in California, signaling that America’s next-generation nuclear bomber is transitioning from proving it can fly to proving it can fight. The flight […]View the full article

The U.S. Army has put more money behind a flying bomb that can circle over a battlefield for an hour, watch its target the entire time, and abort the strike mid-flight if something looks wrong, one day after the weapon proved it could pass every test the Army threw at it. Mistral Inc. and Uvision […]View the full article

"Have I missed the mark, or, like true archer, do I strike my quarry? Or am I prophet of lies, a babbler from door to door?" - Cassaandra, from Aeschylus’s, Agamemnon Sometimes, WaPo puts something out that makes you realize that, in spite of all its sub-optimal performance as the DC town paper, there is still a lot of talent there. Case in point, in Monday’s opinion section, The U.S. cannot afford a major war. What if one comes anyway? For a whole host of reasons, I read it and thought, “Damn. This is good.” First of all, let’s set the table. In 2026, we are in a much better place than we would have been otherwise for the next big war for two reasons. Both have bought …

Ukraine’s drone interceptor crews cannot reliably chase down Russia’s new jet-powered attack drones because their aircraft simply are not fast enough to catch them before their batteries run out, a frontline Ukrainian air defense commander has revealed in an interview to Militarnyi. The commander, who goes by the call sign “Ramzes” and leads the anti-drone […]View the full article

I’m not sure another nation has the same underlying concern for prisoners of war (POWs) that Americans do. I don’t think anyone else has a POW/MIA flag flying all over the place, even if we don’t have any POWs. As everyone was reminded this spring, we will go to incredible ends to stop our people from being taken prisoner if we have to. We will try to rescue them if we can. Perhaps it is the legacy of the British prison ships of the Revolutionary War, the nightmares of the American Civil War camps, or the memory of how our POWs were treated in Vietnam and Korea. In WWII’s European Theater, conditions were rough, but they were not so bad that we couldn’t make a comedy seri…

The U.S. Air Force is looking for industry solutions to upgrade one of the most tactically valuable but persistently underdeveloped sensors on its F-15 fleet — a heat-detecting system that can find and track enemy aircraft without ever turning on a radar, without alerting the enemy that it has been spotted, and without being fooled […]View the full article
