Hi Folks, I finally got on-board with ANW! but apologies, I have poked around and could not find any FAQs on HUD4. is the concept similar to swapping out the active DB in HCE? I download the latest or preferred version of the HUD file, and copy over the original files in ANW? Do I need to recompile any of my scenarios? Thanks, -Armando

I don't want to be someone who talks big and then does nothing. This is my attempt to do something to make the HUD-4 as good and as popular as it can be... If at least three other people will do it, too, I pledge to create at least one new Harpoon ANW scenario every month for the next twelve months, using the HUD-4 database. I also pledge to post at least one AAR on a scenario created by some other author every month. If we can get just four people to regularly write new scenarios with the HUD-4, in a year we will have about fifty. If we can get eight people to do it, in a year, we will have about one hundred of them. And with that many AARs being posted,…

Just a thought... I've noticed that with many of the entries in the HUD-4, if you click the picture button, you get a "media not found" response. Should Gunny consider using public domain images from the Wikipedia Commons to add images to the HUD-4? There are a huge number of these images, many of them created by the US government and therefore in the public domain, and many others covered under a Creative Commons license. I'm not sure what's involved in doing this or if there are any restrictions on these images (Gunny does not make money from the database as far as I know, but if it is included with Harpoon, which is sold for a profit, does that create any…

I know that HUD 4 v1.1 b10 is available at... http://www.computerharpoon.com/downloads/2...HUD4v1.1b10.zip ...but where is version 11? Gunny was kind enough to e-mail it to a few people for testing, etc. Has it been posted anywhere? If not, could it be posted here on Harpgamer? Thanks. Mark

I would like to brainstorm with people about ways to improve the reception of the HUD-4 database. Maybe I am wrong about this, but my impression is that relatively few people are writing scenarios with the HUD-4 and relatively few people are using it to play. I admit up front that this is personal. I like the HUD-4. I like what Gunny has done with it. I like writing scenarios with it. I want people to play those scenarios. Lots of them. I'm not planning on spending too much time talking about "the competition," except to the extent that it is out there and a lot of people seem to be using it. I suspect the issue is not that they know or do not know abou…

I understand the recent release of the b11 version of the HUD 4 v1.1 database (I'm not sure where it was posted; Gunny e-mailed a copy to some of us for testing, scenario design, etc.) will be the last beta before the next full release of ANW. I also know that Gunny has put a tremendous amount of time and effort into this database, and the results are incredible, which is why I, greedy as I always am, am hoping he will consider a major expansion for the NEXT version (HUD 4 v 1.2?)... HUD 4 v 1.2 should expand to make its goal to cover all ships, aircraft, and other platforms for which data is available from 1970 to 2020. Rationale... * Increase the range of…

I like that the HUD includes a number of experimental platforms (including a couple of light carriers), but some of them have almost no explanation. Who would have supposedly built them? Why? If they were actually planned and canceled, could that be included? In fact, there are quite a few entries where some descriptive text should be added or the existing text should be altered or corrected. This is, of course, just a matter of going into the database the next time it is edited and changing some of the descriptive text, but I hope it will get done someday. Speaking of that...any news on when the next release (b 11?) will be? Thanks. ANW HUD …

UPDATED 5-OCT-2011 ANW v3.11 This release was mostly about upgrading the H3MilSim branch to provide for real time integration with STK. However, Rusty also enhanced boarding actions with min/max values (so a zodiac isn't going to attack a destroyer) and adding boarding to the victory conditions. About a dozen bugs were squashed. Details (and beta) here: http://wiki.computerharpoon.com/index.php?...W:311:ChangeLog HUD4 As you may know the "HUD" has been the combined effort of many many developers over years. As indicated in the section header, many Harpoon luminaries have had a hand in the development of this database. In fact, it sourced other databases…

Here is a request/question... Most of the aircraft that can deliver troops don't actually have any troops on them. When I look at things like the UH-60 Blackhawk, the TRP loadouts only show the ready time, not any "weapons." The one exception is that a few of the French helicopters do have a French infantry unit as a "weapon." I haven't tried them out yet but I assume they just function something like a bomb. If you hit your target with the troops, it takes damage. HCE does this. When will the troops be added as actual "weapons" for aircraft? (Or am I just missing how to use them that way somehow?) I'm looking forward to putting together some scenario…

Hey Gunny, I dont have a specific request (but I will make them if you prefer) but I miss moving land units from Harpoon Classic. Think you could toss in some MBT's, SAM's or troop units that can move during gameplay? Thanks Steve
