If anyone wants the editable source documents, you will have to pester Tony for them.

In order to use the Harpoon interface efficiently, it is necessary to use both hands: one for the mouse, and one for the keyboard. In addition, there are some important commands that can only be issued via the keyboard, and there is not even a mouse work-around for some of these.

Somebody with the handle Blond_Knight has provided a list of the keyboard commands. (http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1664018) Tony suggested that I put them in graphical form. Here they are.

<OLD VERSION OF KEYCARD.PNG DELETED BY AUTHOR. SEE BELOW FOR NEW VERSION.>

Personally, I think that the first one, sorted by category (commands.png), is more useful. When I want to issue a command, I want to know what is possible, and I will locate it from a categorized directory far more easily than by an exhaustive search of the keyboard.

Feedback, please. Anything goes.

After posting this, I have realized that the keyboard image (key_card.png) looks too small, which affects the resolution. Both images are actually the same size, 8.5 x 11, less margins.

from Tony, in "play aids" thread: ... to expound a little upon what each one does as keycard descriptions are necessarily short, but if someone eventually builds an interactive keyboard chart, longer descriptions would be very handy

I will be working on this now. It will not be a manual, because the manual already exists. However, I will definitely be plagiarizing like mad from the manual. If there are copyright issues, I hope that someone removes them.

I seem to recall that an old Harpoon manual (which I unfortunately no long can find) contained listings of typical airwing compositions for the various different CV types available in the game. I don't see this in the hard copy manual I just received with the game.

Such a listing would make scenario construction much easier, especially for a player who's not familiar with carrier ops.

I notice a few newer players have some difficulty grasping naval tactics, and it can sometimes be long winded to explain some things in a forum post especially if you end up doing it for several of the forum users.

I have begun work on an ASW guide, which I will be posting up in this thread everytime I have updated it to keep things current.

I have laid out some groundwork for the first section of the guide, not very much, but enough for some of you to see whether it is worth me carrying on writing it in this manner and plus whether the content in there is any good. I would appreciate your input as I am a firm believer that no one person can be the font of all knowledge (which I am most certainly not even close to being) and by opening this up to criticism and suggestions by you all I can produce a quality document for new users of HCE.

I dont intend on updating any further for the moment till I have had some input from you guys on whether its a good idea, as it is going to be alot of work

This is NOT fully formatted yet.... I WILL be adding some screenshot examples and introducing a contents page..

comments please?

If someone wants to create the wiki pages for the BS Builder instructions, now would be a good time.

Suggested page title - http://www.computerharpoon.com/wiki/main/i...e=HCCE:BB_Guide

A prior thread: http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?s...c=2065&st=0

Known limitations (2008.020):

Entire world map is not possible, but you can come close

Extreme latitudes leads to extreme distortion

A BattleSet cannot encompass the 'long way' around the world. An example would be a BattleSet from the West coast of Iceland to the East coast of Iceland, via North America (i.e. Iceland would not be part of that map, if it were possible in the BS Builder).

Weather groups map not appear in the BS, the starting locations are hard coded and not yet editable.

SOSUS may not work in the BS, the starting locations are hard coded and not yet editable.

The .HCBS files store absolute paths to the scenarios which may lead to the scenarios not being included in the BattleSet if the .HCBS file is loaded and the scenarios aren't in those same paths.

BattleSet cannot cross 180 deg longitude, same limitation as going 'long way' around the world, except backwards <g>
</g>
