The helicopter capability seems to be the main enabler of these ships right? Hopefully Brazil is thinking about all of the ways to expand the capabilities of these ships over time (close in missile defense, maybe a longer surface and sam punch,...).

My take is they are planning these OPV's to patrol their offshore oil reserves in the littoral/EEZ. I think they will have some good gun armaments, but not have anything heavier. Brazil is planning a heavier surface combatant (frigate or destroyer-size). I think we can probably expect word of that progran gaining traction in the coming months.

Don't forget the long-term aim of Brazil is his a force of SSN of local design and construction, program in the future from 30 years ago or so ... and we can remember also the problems of India with his indigenous SS( B )N program ... :huh:
