Ok, so time to test some modern UK forces post cuts.

So we have no Harriers.

We have the Tornado's still however, which are fairly formidible.
We have, I think 2 Carriers? or none, some are to be scrapped but we have some underway.
We will be sharing in some capacity with the French, maybe then the carriers could contain some Rafaels? however I tried this in the Scen ed, they didnt fit on HMS Invincible


Our likely/simulated/semi-ficticious/made up enemy shall be......... NORTH KOREA.

Fighting MiG 21's.... but due to the fact they are a piece of shit rather old, any ideas on Russian/International fighters they could have?
Apparently they have some MiG 29's though id imagine not many[approx 15% in number compared to 21's]. The mainstay is MiG 21's I believe, but a shitload.

So the scenario ratios will be:
60% MiG 21's
5% MiG 29's
35% J-5 and J-6's
Handful of Q5e's for scary anti ship fear


The cheesy clancy style uber-realistic storyline...... don't have one... yet! Ideas are welcome

Nice info! Especially the aviation pdf! Ill check the harp sources for info aswell. Also I have to research the exact carrier situation for us, i've been paying attention to politics but the specifics are rarely mentioned.

Now immediately i see, we have to scratch the Harriers :/

BUT we have two 60k tonne carriers (3x displacement of Invincible?) I think they are planned for completion in 2015 though. So I guess it's a 2015 date for this scenario, probably using a US Carrier to model the 60k tonners.

JFK class maybe.


What do people think of replacing the Harriers by Superhornets in the 2015 area?. Only need 28 or so on the carrier.

Don't worry, the Queen Elizabeth (CVF), entry #2828, is from some time ago in the standard DB and in the Americas DB, at least

*edit ahah! I installed the latest DB and found QL class. Thanks!!! Now to see what aircraft fit on it.....

Choices are:

F-35B JSF [fighter]
Rafael F4 [fighter/bomber]
F14 TomcatA+B+D[fighter/bomber]
F/A-18 Superhornet[fighter/bomber]

Personally the Rafael looks good, and then could be considered a co-operative effort of France and the UK in 2015, but then I love the Tomcats
Also i thought i head bad things about the JSF project, I think we are pulling out of that? can anyone confirm?

Anyone know what realistically we could be using? personally using Rafaels as ive heard sounds unrealistic to me, but what choices do we realistically have?

Using 'Catapult Assisted Take-Off But Arrested Recovery (CATOBAR)' the choice is JSF lightning, Rafael F4 and F/A-18 Superhornet.

To me it appears if the JSF is not used it will be the superhornets.

Wikipedia says its outfitted with:

36 Fixed wing aircraft - F-35B Lightning II (however I doubt it will be this model of JSF)
4 support aircraft, Im guessing standard UK scout/ AEW planes 2 of each
+
I'd guess 10 Helicopters of various ASW nature.

Hm you are correct, I wonder how easily it would be to add the 'C' variant allowed for the QE class. The C variant isnt in my one, but the loadout will be the same id imagine, so the B variant could just be the C anyway for Harpoon purposes

HMS Ocean is scheduled to be paid off in 2018, was comissioned in 1998 with an intended life of 20 years, so unlikely that we will have HMS Ocean and an operational F-35C squadron on an QE Class carrier at the same time, although I imagine if there was a general increase in global threat HMS Ocean could have its service life extended.

For now I've got about 50 Korean planes Ill see how the CV does against them

Give the NorKs more planes. LOTS more planes. F-35s against MiG-21s is a slaughter limited only by the amount of ammo on the F-35s.

Agreed Im currently working on that, I might reduce the number of planes on the british side for anti spam if nothing else. Say down to 14 F-35's

Overall I want to be outnumbered 5-1, this is a hero naval aviator moment Also, I have given the NK a bunch of better planes, 5 MiG 29's and F7 and 5 Q-5's, they should make the NK more formidible.
